Yep...I have one and believe it or not...It shoots better (for me) than a 12 ga. rabbit hunting...However the only down turn now is the price of the shell's...

    Not a professional , but

The old .410 is much more challenging to shoot than your average 12/20 gauge shotty. The shot pattern is much tighter, requiring the shooter to be more accurate. Much more accurate. Raise my boys on a Steven's .410 breech loader that I was given at the age of 6 or 7. It has been through the mill, several times. When the boys transitioned from the ol' Steven to the Rems 870 they thought it was the easiest weapon on the planet to shoot. They constantly said " You barely have to aim this thing". It was a wise choice on my part of raise them on the 410 and then get them BIG BOY Shotguns at the age of 12.
FWIIW- I read some where that a 410 slug has the same knock down as a 357. Don't know if it is true as I have never been shot with either one, so I just don't know and hope that I never will.:)

My first shotgun was a 410 and although I cannot prove what you said I do believe it also.

My third Saiga is a .410 currently being converted back to AK configuration with the appropriate parts to stay legal.

It's a kick to shoot and, between handloads and some pretty decent antipersonel commercial ammo, a 20 round box mag can take out a lot of mutant zombie bikers...

Shot the mossy pump today: It's, got more "snot" than I expected... just small (#6's full choke; fairly dense) pattern: be tough squirrel to eat (lots of pellets in paper squirrel target, )000 buck is kinda' impressive too.) Not a "pipsqueak" round by any means...

fist sized pattern at about 15 yards.I 'm Not convinced .410 has enough advantages over skilled use of the the .22lr rifle.

Still like my .22's. for small game hunting recreational or "survival"use..

If you only had a 410, then it's better that nothing. With time to prep I would not even consider it over the 20 or 12. Ammo is very expensive and not nearly as lethal as the other 2 and after SHTF will be hard to find. All three can take small game, but if you want to take anything from deer to zombies or bigger the 410 is inadequate.

Below is a link to 410 load testing in a Taurus Judge, I know it's not the same as a shotgun, but they also tried a couple shots with a shotgun on the last page. Still not impressive considering the range tested.

My local Wally's has the Taurus Circuit Judge revolver carbine - I couldn't believe when I saw it in their rifle display! But the $500 price tag is a bit steep for what would be pretty much a toy, and can't be used (legally) at my local range (shotguns are banned - period!).
Still, it piques my interest as I do like 'oddball' guns.

Here we reload a bit! .410 is $9 and up a box, Some 20 gauge is still $4.99 on sale. Prices are up everywhere and what do you do? Reload. eBay has the Lee classic loader for .410 quite a bit and that would help with reloading on the cheap. For us the .410 is a small game and round for the smaller framed folks. Great fun and still works for that. Some SD it works too, I feel there are better options for me. It would be a great addition as the Mossberg .410 is a great shotgun and a good companion gun for some one who has a Taurus Judge or if another in you party has a .410 weapon(ie M6 scout) or Marlin 444. We just feel the need to have people able to use similar calibers in a pinch!
Also a chamber insert for a 20g or 12g and every one can shoot .410!
Get it by now you probably did!

I'll be keeping mine, if not for me for the wife, DIL, and granddaughters. I can still handle the .12 for most of what I use a shotgun for.
