how many of you, without out a second thought, shoot someone that was willing to cause harm to you or your family, be it a 15 year old kid or a 50 year old woman???

I have no problem and would not give it a second thought to use o deadly force, when it comes to me and my family. The only thing I would feel when I pull the trigger would be recoil.

Im a very peacuful man and feel bad about shooting any animal even if its necessary because of nusance or for food.

However if in any human conflict that requires me to draw a FIREARM it will be discharged and if possible no one will ever know about it.

I have to admit, I don't know for sure that I could pull the trigger. But I'm betting my life and others that I can.

I would be able to if they ment to harm my family, as long as thet had a weapon, if tge were unarmed I would probally hit em in the head with the but of my gun or sick the dog on em.u

Ditto on that Ghrit. A lot of game animals have fallen to my bullets, but no humans. A few close calls where the perps chose to drop weapons and surrender. So in that regard I too am still a virgin. I would hope to stay that way forever, but doubt I will be that lucky or blessed.

Having never been in that situation, it is never a GIVEN... HOWEVER, if one does the Required Mental Considerations, well ahead of time, and come to a FIRM understanding of ones own Mind, on the question, then it becomes a whole lot simpler, to deal with, when the Time, and Situation, arrises. Both Momma and I have spent many hours discussing this exact question, and have both done the required Soul Searching, of our Person thoughts. We have conclude, that if it is US, or Them... Them is going to DIE... without a Blink of the Eye, or a Tear Shed. ..... YMMV.....

The closest thing to any hesitation by me that you would see, would be me taking the safety off as my gun came up. If I was carrying my Glock, you wouldn't even see that much.

Any that come to harm those I care about should be thoughtful enough to bring their own bodybag & please be considerate enough to dig their own hole beforehand.

In civvy life: I have only had to draw on people about 4-5 times. Once a group of 3 that were trying to come in to my home looking for someone they thought lived there. They were drunk as skunks, 1 had an axle handle, another had a piece of pipe and the 3rd was carrying some steel rod. I called 911 before I opened the door and they stared into the barrel of my 12 gauge.
Cops arrived, waved me back inside, and they took them all away, but it was a bit shaky there for a few minutes.
It was pretty much touch and go....
Another time, I was working private security and a group of 3 came in a back door of a warehouse trying to steal boat motors. That one was bad. Nearly caused a freakin' riot! Bad neighborhood....Those 3 were not at all intimidated by my 12 gauge! They were LUCKY. One chose not to advance and the other 2 were mad at him, so they turned back...Cops were outside. In less than 3 minutes there were about 6 cars of cops and over 100 people wantiing my skin for pulling a weapon on their friends....regardless that they were burglars!

Other times were different and BTW, not all people get sick right away after a shooting. Most do. I had a time delay, then it kicked in! ( bad place was in the Mess Hall) now we know why it's called that! You have that adrenaline rush...it's a combination, or so I was told, that causes shaking like tremors!
Everone reacts differently. It's NOT good by any means. You get exhilirated, (you are still alive) then sick, (you just killed a human being). having spent a lot of my youth ( up to the ripe old age of 19) I never had a reaction to hunting, or killing animals. This is so far above and beyond that, I doubt anyone can accurately describe that terrible gut wrenching, sense of loss, and guilt, mixed with fear, excitement and adrenaline. For me, That was a long time ago...1971. It stays with you, forever.
    Can I do it? yes.
I would NOT be at all happy about it, but you have to do what you have to do, so you are the one that lives to see another day. I've run into a lot of wannabe's that say all they want is a chance to shoot someone...yeah and those big bad talking fools find that most lose control of their bowels afterwards, and never touch another weapon afterwards. It takles time to come to grips with what you have done and you ask yourself IF there was any othere way...You deal with the guilt as you are able. It's NOT for everyone, like war.

I think as far as the pulling of the triger for the defense of ourselves or that of our family, for the most part us as preper's or survivalist which ever prefered. We have a survival mindset which is an advantage and the Zombie's rely on most people being a victim not a threat. Man kind when conditioned with the right mindset is capble of unknown action's when it comes to self preseravation and as a father or mother we are by nature protector's. Now in a SHTF where I see the problem is after the use of deadly force when the body and mind slows down and the person go's from the protector to the OH $h!t what have I done mode. I feel that with conditioning such as running these type's of what if's through your mind and how would I handle this, or talking like BTPost said with momma, a buddy that will be part of your group will help deal with this when it happens. Because the mind and body doesn't get the full shock of it, your mind looks back and it is familuar. One thing I would like to point out about why it is important to be prepared for after the incountrer is if you are in a SHTF your family is going to be depending on you, there could be another shooter or threat, you could be in a situation where you need to grab your family and run and don't have time to break down. If you do you go from being a protector to a burden on your family or group that's when you get someone hurt. I tell boot Deputy's when I train them if something happens and they are scared or unsure of them having the ability to follow through. To tell me right then that way I know that now I could be on my own plus one more victim to get out of harms way.

its easier for me to shoot people than animals
always has been, animals have a good reason to kill
humans do it for pleasure and greed

Mindsets now and mindsets after tshtf. Now, I believe most people would not shoot if nec for any reason. But afterwords, when it becomes apparent that they could die if deciding to fire a "warning shot" would most likely come around to deadly force out of necessity. It would be like over in se. asia during the second half of the 60's, there were a lot of young guys that were afraid to shoot at the enemy, as a lot of them were prone to just shooting in the general direction of incoming fire. But, they either came around and quickly or they are buried. It takes time for a lot of people to realise what is going on, but a large percentage of them do figure it out in time.

I dont know if I could pull the trigger if I had to for saving just myself. I would probably die trying to figure out a less lethal way to deal with the threat.
However, in defending my family, not only would I pull the trigger, I would cut apart the body and throw them in opposite directions to ensure there is no threat to my girls anymore.

Look at it like this if you didn't take the shot to save youself who will protect your girl's? I have 2 one 18yr old and a 1yr old plus my wife it would scare me to death to think of them being stuck in a place when SHTF and I wouldn't be there to protect them.

Your dilemma, Is EXACTLY why, you should get the Serious Thinking, and contemplation, out of the way NOW, while there is NO Imminent Threat. Once the thinking is done and you have a Decision, and Plan, then when the time comes you do NOT have to deal with those issues, and can proceed to implement the PLAN, as decided long before. Messing around, hemming and hawing, when things are dicey, to begin with, will only get you KILLED, faster.
    .... YMMV.....

I haven't had to shoot anyone since I got out of the military but I'm pretty sure the training would just kick back in. As far as feeling bad about it, not likely. [dunno]
