(Reuters) - Federal authorities on Tuesday arrested four Georgia men accused of plotting to buy explosives and produce a deadly biological toxin to attack fellow U.S. citizens and government officials.
The Justice Department said the men were members of a fringe domestic militia group and had planned to manufacture ricin for use in their attacks.
The men attended meetings starting in March where they discussed carrying out crimes, including murder, in order to undermine federal and state government, prosecutors said. The targets included local police, federal government buildings and employees of agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service.
The meetings were monitored by FBI agents with the assistance of a confidential informant, according to prosecutors. Two of the men also met with an undercover agent to discuss buying explosives and weapons parts, prosecutors said.
The men are Frederick Thomas, 73; Dan Roberts, 67; Ray H. Adams, 65; and Samuel J. Crump, 68. Thomas is from Cleveland, Georgia, and the other three men are from Toccoa.
At a meeting at Thomas' house in March, Thomas said he had enough weapons to arm everyone at the table and that he had compiled a "Bucket List" of government employees, politicians, corporate leaders and media members he felt needed to be "taken out" to "make the country right again," according to court documents.
"There is no way for us, as militiamen, to save this country, to save Georgia, without doing something that's highly, highly illegal. Murder," Thomas said during the meeting, court records show.
During a meeting in September, Crump said he wanted to make 10 pounds of ricin and disperse it in various U.S. cities, according to prosecutors. Authorities said he described one scenario in which the toxin would be blown from a car traveling on Atlanta highways.
Last month, Adams allegedly gave Crump a sample of the beans used to produce ricin, prosecutors said.
Ricin can cause death from exposure to as little as a pinhead amount. Most victims die between 36 hours and 72 hours after exposure, and there is no known antidote.
The most famous case of ricin poisoning was in 1978 when dissident Bulgarian writer Georgi Markov was killed when an assassin in London jabbed him with an umbrella that injected a tiny ricin-filled pellet.
"These defendants, who are alleged to be part of a fringe militia group, are charged with planning attacks against their own fellow citizens and government," Sally Quillian Yates, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, said in a statement.
"While many are focused on the threat posed by international violent extremists, this case demonstrates that we must also remain vigilant in protecting our country from citizens within our own borders who threaten our safety and security," she said.

Let's see how would I write that Reuters story. Headline: OLD FOLKS FIGHT BACK! Several elderly men in their late 60's and 70's, upset with out of control Federal Government spending, Inflation, devaluing Fiat currency, and proposed cuts or complete collapse of the Social Security system, facing homelessness and a slow terrible death by starvation, decide to strike back against those they feel most responsible in Washington. They are arrested after a Government confidential informant within their group rats them out.

Im glad they did get them but I too do not like how alot of media and L.E.O. attempt to classify people into certain group's. When I write my report's I alway's just list them as a group of people unless they have told me directly, or are wearing some kind of uniform to tell me different. I hate to classify a whole group by just a few because as a L.E.O. I know what that feel's like when it's done to us. One thing I didn't understand about the article was the old guy's made the statement this is the only way we can save Georgia and the country. Then they plan on driving down a roadway blowing it out of the vehicle. First of all they stated save Georgia, so they care about the state so why would they just drive down the road contaminating her. Second when a group is this deep into the planning they are depending on their actions to be against Big Brother not the people, because they want the people to some how identify with them as possibaly some type of heroic act. So why once again would they target citizen who they feel are being done wrong as well. Im not trying in anyway to take up for these guy's or what they were doing, because I don't think they had any idea on what they were dealing with using that route. I just don't think that their plan of action matches their reason of cause, in the article above. Now I do think that Big Brother takes cases like this and work them just a little to benifit them in or when it come's to restricting us who prep and firearm owners. Anyway I think this group should have been stated as a group of crazy old men in theeir 60's and 70's lost their mind and had made plans to do

    Bingo, Alpha!

There is just something that doesn't "smell right" about the whole thing.

I am not saying this is the case but . . recently there has been chatter about the FBI being a bit over aggressive in developing "security threats".

    Think entrapment.

Again, I am not saying this is the case, but dang it, this situation particularly, just . . . . doesn't pass the smell test.

I figure that will come out in a few day's that they found x amount of guns and ammo. Then how they found that the men planned to use them in the crime. It surpised me they didn't call it an act of domestic terrorism yet, but I figure that will come after they count the guns, ammo and go through the books the old men have and dvd's.

Then why do the latest Napolitano TV ads about terrorism feature Anglo-Saxon male adults who are veterans ?

Oh, that is an easy one. Merchants and the government has been using the technique for decades. It is called "subliminal messaging". It is an official science!

Nuts come in all sizes, shapes, and ages---these guys are prime examples. They are no better than the muzzies who bomb innocent women and children. Glad they caught them and hope they get burned well. There is a giant difference in selected targets and mass murder--these nuts needed to be stopped.
