I heard that they were called "possum on the half-shell".

That's enough to keep them off my menu! ;)

I've never seen a live armadillo, just their flattened carcasses next to the highway.

    it's true but

I have no doubt that it is true that wild armadillos in several states carry leprosy, and can transmit it to humans. It has been speculated about for years. The following links from so called respectable sources seem to confirm it. But, keep in mind that all these sources also probable support Global Warming as an undeniable truth. Do you?

However, It is my assumption that it is quite possible that one of our stellar drug companies searching for a way to make millions might have not only infected armadillos with leprosy in an labratory setting, but also somehow released into the wild infected specimens rather than safely destroy and incinerate them. The following link would make one wonder.

I'm no expert but from I know leprosy is more common than we know... cured by heavy doses of antibiotics... seems to me a drug company would love that thus leave the little wee beasties alone

Why did the chicken cross the road? To prove to the armidillo it could be done...

we should catch them and send them to a Leper Colony. I here that there is a big colony in Washington DC.

Seeing more and more of them here in SC. Ugly little critters. They do carry leprosy and has been known by the country folk for awhile. They seem to be following the fire ants north.

They are very tasty. About as smart as a possum so their not real hard to find. As the leporsy from what I have heard you will see white spots on them and cooking will kill it. If I saw 1 with white spots on it I'd bury it, but I've never seen one.

as far as I'm concerned, armadillos and opossums are free fire targets.

In the past I have eaten these little footballs as well. I won't mess with them in the furure. You might want to read the articles I linked. I was trying to debunk the leprosy/armadillo connection. Couldn't do it. jmho

I don't see a conspiracy here....just a function of a great many folds for bugs to grow. Most turtles have salmonella...same reason. A flea...sort of like a teeny-tiny armadillo carries bubonic plague. Ticks carry typhus and lyme....just how things are.

I wasn't thinking along the lines of a conspiracy. More along the lines of ignorance, incompetence, stupidity and greed. Sorta like mortuary/cremetoriums failing to do what they were paid for and just dumping the bodies here and there. Or snake owners releasing their boa constrictors, and pythons in south florida, and the everglades now having multiple tens of thousands if not 100s of thousands. Or peta eco-terrorists turning lab animals loose. It's called unintended consequences at the very least. jmho

It just goes to show the sorry state of things when you can't even use the word conspiracy anymore because it is so blatant and commonplace in the world today.

If I somehow upset you, that was not my intent, and you have my apology. I agree the word conspiracy is vastly overused. It is a fact that until someone else dropped the word into this thread, I had not used it here. Peace ......
