  1. I'm trying to find alternatives to water / soap for survival situations, with the only water around being used for drinking, what are some idea's for staying clean and healthy?

I bought 10 of these to stock up...50% off deal, however I would like to know anyone elses ideas...is this the best thing...or is there something better?

For basic bathing during SHTF situations, you can use water and sand.As you bathe, use handfuls of wet sand and you can scrub your skin with it and rinse off with water. It won't cause all your odor to go away, but it will remove dirt and grime from your skin. If you live in an area that has Aloe plants growing wild, you can pick the leaves and pound them with a rock and mix with water and it will make a soapy, sudsy, lather you can use to bathe. Other than that, you can make your own soap using ashes, water and fat, to make lye soap. It's a little strong but it works well and you can use it to wash your clothes.

Soap is cheap here in the US, and it doesn't take up much storage space. Buy lots of it now.

  6. In vietnam, soap was a medicine. The locals would start washing with the ivory etc we gave them and pretty soon the "gook sores" would heal up.

Staying clean is a major issue for staying healthy and preventing sickness and infection.

I can make soap from fat and lye. There are tons of How to's on it on the web.

I have used wood ash to wash dishes and myself, but need a rinse off with water after the fact.

Without water, I would think swabbing down with alcohol (distilled by myself in need be) would be the best option. I have seen a bit of water mixed with alcohol used to give sponge baths.

It doesn't take that much water to be clean, but not being clean is or would be a problem.

Plan on having water. Of all the things one needs, water is one of the most important after air.

In Alaska, when showers arent feasible every day, a lot of us have saunas... a steam and towel off is as good as a shower.

what, towel off? You are suppose to jump naked into a lake or roll in the snow, then sit on your towel while sipping a vodka! That's how us Finns roll. Word of warning, I do not advise cutting hole in ice and jumping in lake without supervision.

  9. Especially after the vodka. Perhaps a rope tied to yourself and a handy tree or post?

Just a quick question prepper_momma, that link you posted there, it wouldn't happen to have your affiliate id embedded into it now would it? Considering prepper_king posted the exact same message on another board ..

LOL, no vodka is for after you have decided you are done in the sauna. Drunk Finns do some dumb things but never to mess with Sauna Time!

Every winter, I used to go to a little B & B in Ludlow Vermont where my favorite Saturday night tradition was a sauna and a roll in the snow. Nothing quite like it

Close as I have gotten is a M38 and reading up on that sniper dude in the winter war.

I have hopes to add a sauna / steam hut to our new place, but at the moment getting a new work shed build and the house set up right and the root cellar and garden in is higher needs.

    Maybe by fall.

If you find me jumping into ice water or rolling naked in the snow, please call the men in white coats, because I'll definitely have lost my mind.If it comes to bathing in ice water, this ol' boy will get pretty grungy.

Baby wipes? You can get them in bulk fairly inexpensively at just about any warehouse club and you'd be amazed at how long they last/how much you can clean up with one (unless of course you've had kids...then it's no surprise at all).

Every time we do a drive to collect supplies for our men and women in uniform for care packages, those are always on the list of things they are asking for too. They say that when a shower isn't available that those are a Godsend.

Advertisements. Whats the deal I just read another thread with a post like that on another board. Condisering the boudle post it is probably some kind of bot.

Why not just contact the board admin and see what it would take to actually advertise on the board, maybe send free samples to people that want to try it etc.
