Lots of gramatical mistakes in the first chapter. Yikes...

 

I didn't really notice. It's from an indie author, hopefully the final product will be given to an editor.

The story looks exciting.

 

Even Indie authors can afford to use the grammar function on Word. Nothing against Indies, I do that my self, but if you can't bother to spell check or grammar check....

 

Have you read it? Its not that bad, I've seen much worse. Its not so bad that it distracts from the story.

What about the story? Isn't that what we are talking about?

If we want to be grammar police, I will point out that "my self" should be "myself" in your post. LOL

 

Can't download it. The PDF, at least. If they're a publishing company, why can't they put it up properly on their own server?

My assumption is that there is no publishing company that has take the project on yet. I did read the first chapter that was available and there were enough mistakes to distract me from the story as well as a lack of diversity in verbage.

Just my honest opinion...

I really enjoyed it, the story is fast paced and it sucks you in very quickly. I'm a voracious reader and whatever mistakes are there didn't slow me down at all. Cant wait for the full release this summer.

 

I read the first 7 chapters and am waiting to read the whole book. Grammar and spelling mistakes happen, This book is self published therefore take off your English teacher hat & enjoy the story he is telling.

The book has started with interesting characters in situations that could happen. The book is set in the future, who knows what the future holds but if this is it then people need to start learning a new way of life. I think this will be a novel that makes one stop and think. The author introduces some characters that made me so angry and disgusted but I guess those are types of people you may meet while in jail.

BTW - are you the author? If so, why not just say so? Folks here have been very welcoming and have made (via PM) some very good suggestions.

I get a lot of hits to my series website from here - and folks have been kind enough to provide feedback - all to make my stories - more better - than before.

As for the story part, in my limited experience in writing, I have found that a good number of people are put off by grammar and spelling issues - something most Indie authors tend to skimp on. The time paid to ensuring the "English" is correct will be returned with better sales.


You can try posting over Bean Books - they don't charge and the feedback, while brutal, is worth its weight in gold. Grow some thick skin before you post, as the Barflys can be...intense in their comments.

LOL. No, I am not the author. A friend of mine saw something about it on FB and told me about it. I went to the website mentioned in the first post and copied and pasted it here.

 

I completely forgot about this book and recently read the full version. The author has an editor on board and the book is highly polished and looks great. Typos and grammar issues are gone! I updated my original post with current links. The book is doing very well on Amazon, its in the top 100 bestsellers list in a few categories, lots of five star reviews.

This book is AMAZING! One of the best apocalyptic books I've ever read.

Yes, I had serious editing issues at the start. I was so enthusiastic about getting the story out of my brain that I had a hard time slowing down and putting in any work on editing. I hired an editor and she did a fantastic job polishing up Collapse.

Finished it a couple days ago and enjoyed it.

CORRECTION: I just realized I had 2 books by the same (partial) title that I had recently gotten for my Kindle, the other being Collapse: You're On Your Own by Kay Mahoney...which is the one I just finished a couple days back.

Starting Mr Stephenson's book now.
