How do you carry your water when on the move?

In my emergency backpack for water is 2 canteens that hold 2-quarts each, one is a collapsible military canteen with M1 cap and the other is a simple one bought at Wal-Mart but I find that it works pretty good, at least better than I expected.

I have a metal water bottle/container and it is pretty thin to put anywhere in my pack.

I have water purification tablets that can treat up to 5 gallons.

I also have Ziplock freezer bags because they are made with thicker plastic than regular ones so they are good for storing, carrying water from a stream or some natural water source to another spot like the 'camp' area so to say.

I am going to get a 10 dollar water pouch/bladder at Wal-Mart for 10 bucks or the 20 dollar backpack one, i'm more for 10 dollar one which I believe was another 2-quart. These are my water supplies so far.

I might also have a few water bottle on me at the time and would fill them all up if possible when I can. Plus I would share with people in my group who do not have water, and will help them find/get water.

keep in mind that a metal bottle or canteen will slosh while it's partilly empty... consider a collapsable carrier that you can remove the air for better noise discpline... just saying....

 

Yeah I know what your saying, but that is something i'm going to deal with, it won't bother me much.

 

On the move I have a few camelbacks along with canteens and such. They all work great for being out and about. When I do my walking around the neighborhood, I always strap on a camelback just for that reason.. might as well test out the gear.

 

Years ago I discovered that a 2 liter soda bottle fits the bottom/side outside pocket of an ALICE ruck. Empty, it weighs almost nothing. Fairly rugged - never had one fail in 4 years of field work. If you have to do a water crossing, the empty bottle provides a good amount of buoyancy.

A pair of 2 QT canteens sit in the radio pocket inside the ALICE ruck. Ditto for float-ness.

Canteen on your hip for drinking while on the move.

If the sound of water in your canteen sets off an ambush - you're doing it wrong.

 

Weird, but it works...

I use a pair of Bota bags and a pressure filter (I have Katydyn, but there are now better units available that have been developed since I outfitted).

The bota bags are easy to stash and help deal with the noise problem.

Trust me, if you need to move quietly, dealing with the slosh is a MUST)
