Hey hey my fellow chongos. My girlfriend is traveling and in Fla and the need for a BOL came up. I know a lot of guys there but they all have a strange desire to keep themselves off the grid and, well quite frankly, they are a little paranoid (can you blame them?) So anyways, I was thinking, we need some better logistics. I know a lot of people don't want to give out exact coords but maybe we can make a secure repository of information for people who would be willing to help out fellow survivalists.

The freeman project in NE has a network of walkie talkies and they are always monitored. They have been very successful using that system. Maybe we can get a list with info like this:
Enloopious, Southern California, phone (or email, or walkie talkie channel, or CB) or whatever i'm willing to give out.

That way we can have something. It's not great but its a start. We are supposed to be superheroes and not just 'what if' doomsday preppers. What about IRL?

I guess PM me and I will start making a list unless there is already something like this going. The list will only be for people who have a post count over 25(?) and who can confirm their contact method. Any suggestions or comments?

You may be successful in your endeavor and maybe not. Most of us are pretty cautious about giving out any personal information. There are some of us on SM that have very long term friendships and share all of the information you are looking for but, to be honest, those are friends, not just fellow preppers. This isn't information I would give to a virtual stranger. BTW, I personally hate the term "survivalist." Survival is the most basic need in any species, human or otherwise so whether you identify yourself by the title or not, you are a survivalist.

It all amounts to the connections, and relationships we make with our fellow Monkeys...

When AlaskaChick was deployed with Drs w/o Boarders, on Teaching Missions in the NE USA, and Southern Canada, the last two winters, I setup a Emergency Contact protocol for her, with some of the local Monkeys in the areas she visited. We had a BugOut Plan, in place, that would get her headed home, that did NOT depend on the USA Airspace being Open, or any TSA involvement.

She is a Ham Radio Operator, and can spot a Ham Antenna Farm, a mile away, and knows to Knock on that Door and ask to use the Ham Radio, to contact Home, on established Emergency Comm Frequencies already in Place. She also carried MonkeyNet type Family KeySets and PADs, so that any Comms could be encrypted, if needed. She also had a SECURE Phone, and a Vhf/Uhf Handheld Ham Radio in her Electronics Kit, that allowed her to contact any local Ham Radio Operator, or Monkey with SECURE Phone, to setup a FaceMeet, should that be needed. Of course none of this worked when she was deployed in Africa. We depended on Drs w/o Boarders for transport, and the Internet for Comms. That seemed to be effective, during that deployment. .....

Look up ANTS. I haven't looked at it too much but seems to be what you are looking for. Good luck

There's no need for anyone to give you an exact location of residence, nor of any particular preps. One thing a couple of us have done is arrange a time and place NOT at home, to meet. Say the ice cream shop half a mile from XYZ pastry bakery. Then don't fail to be there, and whatever you do, don't follow them home without a clear invitation and caution on your own part. This sort of thing works well on vacation trips prior to bug out situations, and ice breakers are a requirement. I might help you find a BOL, but you won't know where my hidey hole is until I know you well.

I guess I look at it a little differently as a female who has lived alone for many years, I don't respond to requests for any information. Takes a long time before I trust anyone

Yeah I'm in Los Angeles and if someone had an emergency they could email me and I wouldn't mind helping out. Its not a social network and it would be weird if someone actually did give me their exact location. Its not that kind of list. Its an emergency bail out contact list for when you're in a strange place. Ideally everyone should have their plans and stuff down in triplicate but sometimes things go wrong and having a friendly stranger who you've talked to online for weeks, months, or even years is better than nothing.

We might look at a simplified version of the Monkeynet keypad system to make such contact more realistic and secure. You may not be able to confirm that the person you are talking to is not a maniac; but at least you could confirm that they are a Survival Monkey, and a maniac that you know - sort of like the way it is with family.

A 10x10 matrix, with each square containing 3 elements, can be reduced to the size of two business cards, laminated and kept in a wallet or purse. Since unexpected problems tend to occur somewhat unexpectedly, that would be the only way to ensure that you always had it on you. Such a matrix would result in three hundred vocabulary items, numbers, letters, or phrases - easily enough to enable clear communication in emergency situations. It's something you could always have on you, and it wouldn't rely on a laptop or internet connectivity.

Phone numbers of participating monkeys would have to be exchanged, and not everyone would be good with that, but that would be all that need be exchanged. Such an encryption matrix would have fixed internals, and removable externals. The externals need only be written on the laminated matrix when communication is required, and then wiped clean to render the matrix useless to others.

I've used this type of system, and I know that it works well under almost any situation. The matrix can be used for extensive communication, or for a simple identity authentication. You call a number on the list of participating monkeys, when they answer you identify yourself as a monkey in need of assistance, they issue a challenge "3-4-2", you look up the internal element corresponding to those externals on your matrix and reply "automobile" (or whatever it is) and they at least know that you are who you say you are. You can then tell them what assistance you require, and they can tell you what they are able or willing to do; or in more extreme situations where communications monitoring is feared, the matrix can be used to encrypt the entire exchange.

The more complex a plan is, the more likely it is to become unusable in emergency situations. This works.

Phone numbers could be encrypted using the matrix and placed on the back of the card and laminated, so that they would be always at hand, or a separate card could be constructed for slightly more security.

I'd be willing to give out my phone number for such an assistance exchange system.

I've acted as a rescue/refuge option for a travelling monkey in the past. That being said, the monkey is a friend that I trust based on their posts on SM, email, phone conversations and online chats.
We did not need to fire of the plan of action but it was available to the monkey as they passed through my AO.
Would I do it again for this monkey? You betcha.
Would I do the same for another monkey? Well, it depends. If we've already developed a trust relationship, then yep, I'll drop what I'm doing to come help you.
Other than that, You'll need to provide me with contact info, nature of your emergency and current location before I take action. It almost sounds like we need another forum called 'Monkey in need of assistance' what do you think melbo?

I used to hang out at the Turbo Diesel Register forums (Dodge RAM Cummins) They had a forum like that - helpers registered and those in need could check those forums by state for help if they needed it.

With our group though, who'd want to put there details out for all to see as a Helper? Maybe go the opposite route, those in trouble could post their situation / location in a separate forum and anonymous helpers could step in via PM, email, call, etc.

    Watching. Please continue to discuss.

I like that idea best. Help probably available but at the discretion of the one offering an assist

I agree with this route. Monkeys that are willing and able to help can answer the call. Monkeys that want to remain anon. don't need to respond and there isn't any obligation for them to do so. Secret monkeys can remain secret. But if there is someone that wants to step up and contact troubled monkey they can do so. The monkey in trouble makes the first step by releasing their info , helper monkeys respond if they can and want to help can still do so privately, by phone, pm, email or what not..

    This A.N.T.S. network is interesting.
There might not be any need to reinvent the wheel although I still like the idea of a monkeys 4 monkeys help forum.

The difference here is that we have a sense of community where on that network, you don't necessarily 'know' the others.
