Crisco Candle for emergency situations. Simply put a piece of string in a tub of shortening, and it will burn for up to 45 days. (We do not recommend Crisco for consumption)
what ya mean you don't recomend crisco for consumption... it makes great pie crusts and bibscuits when you are out of lard...
You can also use tuna cans filled with oil. Just drill a small hole in the top stick in a small wick and light. Once the oil is burned up you can open the can and eat the tuna.
I can tell you why not to use crisco--crisco melts around 120-125 degrees and your body only to 98 degrees what do think it does in your body--i returns back to solid even in minute participles that is why I use oils or hog lard as lard will start to melt in you hands
It would be a rich prepper that used crisco for light. FWIW, WW2 American POWs would burn fats, needed for food just to feel some independence and to have light at night, all the while loosing weight and slowly dieing of starvation. Think twice before you burn up your energy sources as light instead of food.
Thats cool I have on occasion bought tuna in oil and won't eat it, pup loves it though, got home canned tuna now
