You can fit around 65 rounds of .22lr ammo in a pill bottle. Depending on the pharmacy, some of the bottles are water-resistant. You could also put matches in there, cotton-balls soaked in Vaseline....you get the picture.

You can paint the bottles a flat color, or, take a photo of a bunch of pills and print out and wrap around the inside of the bottle. To a casual observer, it would look like a bottle of pills (unless they picked it up). 22lr.

My range bags/and some "BOBs are simple picnic coolers. They do not look like they contain goodies. They can sit in plain sight and not be questioned.

A label with the word "suppositories" would be a nice touch of fairly truthfull deception......"you piss me off and i'm goin' ta insert these little babies up your ass!..."

Off subject but got to wondering what Chelloveck and Diabolus Causidicus means so looked it up. Chelloveck in Russian simply means "person" or another person. DC is :
    Devil's Advocate.
In common parlance, devil's advocate has come to mean a person who takes a position for the sake of argument (not necessarily believing in the argument); or who presents a counterargument for a position they do believe in, to another debater. This process can be used to test the quality of the original argument and identify weaknesses in its structure.

Yeah he is pretty good at getting me to look at the other side of an issue, me being the onewayed, hardheaded, codgered up old phart that I am. I've been a big user of pill bottles and vacum bags for ammo storage.

Chelloveck does mean person, man, or more colloquially, "fellow" in the created language of Nadsat. * I drew this reference from Anthony Burgess's book "A Clockwork Orange", subsequently made into a film..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange_(film)
I guess I chose the nom de plume of chelloveck because I liked the novel, and because I relish tolchocking weak or fallacious argumentation in the kishkas.

Indeed that is so.....though often, I am in fact supporting the arguments that I am making on my own behalf.

I am less interested in what is right and what is wrong, which is largely the province of value judgement, than I am with what is true and what is false. If an argument is based on false premises or logical fallacy, or even factually incorrect information, then I try and parse them out and challenge them. I expect no less of the arguments that I float in these forums.

Although I may tease or taunt some, it is not done with malicious intent to cause deliberate hurt, and I respect in many the fidelity with which they hold to their beliefs, even if I don't necessarily share them, or perhaps think them mistaken. As to ideas or beliefs within themselves,....they are not so precious, and if I feel that they are unsound or absurd, then I don't necessarily feel constrained to treating them with any special reverence. All ideas are fair game for comment and sceptical critique. Sometimes, some folks' sensitivities may feel particularly aggrieved when beliefs that they hold to dearly are perhaps not addressed reverentially with the respect that they may feel is deserved, and sometimes the balance between freedom of expression, and freedom from being offended can be difficult to navigate and mediate. In general, I contribute here, because in the main, the site, and its residents do accord to the spirit of the First Ammendment to the US Constitution.

Although I do enjoy the rhetorical fencing here (It's a much better alternative for me than the metaphorical stabbing of my own eyes with a fork, trying to solve cryptic crosswords or suodoku puzzles), I also enjoy learning from you all, and making my own modest practical contributions to the sum total of survival knowledge to be had here, which, evidently, is supposedly the main raison d'etre of the site.

Alternatively...perhaps to some, I am Satan's servant here on earth smoothing the way to eternal damnation and hellfire, for not only just myself, but for all those others who have been seduced by the brilliance of my sophistry. (Satanic cult rituals and human sacrifices by appointment)..... The wages of sin are not particularly remunerative, but it is very likely that you will be in excellent company.

LOL, can you put that in a pill bottle Chel.? We all have different paths that have led us here and to this point in history.
Sorry to have gotten us off track. For small amount ammo boxes I like to use small metal cake boxes. They usually hold between 70-150 rds and stack nicely.

a good idea.....another idea is to store lead shot in PET pop or fruit juice bottles....easy to pour, the container is robust and you have a reasonable idea what shot size you're dealing with at a glance.

One of the local guys is making shot. A one liter bottle is just about right for the usual 25 lb bag. Gotta say, I think dropping the bottle is more apt to split and spill than dropping a bag --

You're probably right...I guess you could cloth bag the bottle to cover both possibilities. I keep mine in a PET bottle, I just find it more convenient than shifting a bag around.

.22 LR stored inside choke tube cases within a cordura belt pouch. It also has a separate zippered compartment where I keep Q-Tips and gun oil. This can be fixed to a belt or bag easily.

I like this very much.....very similar to the toiletry pouches that some airlines give out to passengers on long haul routes (I get mine from thrift shops, rather than international travel), but sturdier, and with belt attachment or shoulder straps, much more convenient to carry.

Yeah I like that setup a lot too, Brokor. When out and about with a .22 I've always just upended a 50 rnd box at a time in one of my front pants pockets. Not much of a visionary I guess... Can't rem how many went through the wash! I'm sure my mom has a count!

I use pill bottles for a lot of stuff like this. I never thought to use it for .22 ammo though. Great idea!

just go down to your nearest big truck dealer aqnd get some oil sample bottles. they are a black, screw top bottle, 2 1/4 x 4 in high. and inside there is a clear plastic screw top bottle, 1 5/8x 3 7/8 high. these things are meant to send engine oil samples in the mail. super tough and don't leak. urine sample bottles are good too. cheers

A bit of the ammo is kept in picnic coolers. Non threatening and who wants to steal a picnic cooler. Small ones for the heavier loads and the big ones for ear protection, targets, scope, etc. Thanks for the tips on the bottles. I use Tang and instant drink screw top plastic "jars" for lots of things. Black magic markers really write well on them and they stack easily.

I use small, heavy duty zip bags to store easy access ammo for range use.
Below, are the larger vacuum sealed bags I use for long term storage. If I lived in a humid environment, I would include some desiccant.

A tobacco chew can will hold all the .22lr ammo you could possibly need on any hunting trip. I have one in each gun case, in the gloves pocket, and another in a shirt pocket.
On a related subject, a aluminium arrow shaft makes a fine speed loader for a tubular magazine. Cut it to fit the desired number of rounds, then cap it with a pencil eraser. I will get pics of mine to show if wanted.
