I knew it was coming but my god not this fast...

On the bright side, you're gainfully employed. MAny people I know are not. I don't know how spiritual you are or if you even celebrate Christian holidays but if you do, then the spiritual side of this holiday can put things in a different perspective for you.

May tomorrow (or next month) bring a better day for you.

 

thats interesting but it sounds more to me like u hate your job and not christmass... .... if you didnt work in the store would christmass suck so bad ???? come to my house for christmass and christmass eve .. ill assure you we have a good time ....AND DONT FORGET WHAT THE REAL REASON FOR THE SEASON IS !!!! No, I love my job. It's rough during the Christmas/Valentines season; but I would play with jewelry as a hobby, even if I didn't do it for a job. It's a great job.

What I hate is the stress created during the Christmas season by the rampant materialization of our society. I hate the mindless consumerism. I hate the hypocrisy displayed by shoppers, willing to engage in a fistfight to get that last special toy, and who will run you down in the parking lot to get a space closer to the mall; but who claim to be filled with the "Christmas Spirit", whatever that means these days.

Even many of those who claim to remember "the meaning of Christmas" seem to readily forget that meaning amongst the race to shop, decorate, and gorge on food and drink. I can't see Jesus Christ, the man behind "the meaning of Christmas", really engaging in any of the traditional American Christmas activities. I think he would be horrified, and ascribe those activities more to the Pagan hoards than to the godly.

If we could eliminate gift giving during Christmas, I would welcome the holiday. To exchange holiday greetings, visit with family and friends, share a meal, sounds like a wonderful thing; but most Americans seem to need to take everything to the extreme.

I don't wish to offend. I'm certainly not digging at you personally, and I'm not saying that every American or every American Christian has lost their way on Christmas. Many spend their holidays helping the homeless, and feeding the hungry, and reflecting on "the meaning of Christmas." I salute them. I think though that, in general, Christmas in America has turned into a holiday of hypocrisy. That is what I hate.

Yes, Christmas time seems to bring out the folks that have lost the true meaning of the season. Shopping conflicts, parking battles...all senseless IMHO. Reflecting on the birth and later sacrifice of Christ is the last thing on manys' minds, as proven by their selfishness.

This year will be spent (again) with family, and although there will be food and drink available it is not the primary reason for the gathering. Gifts, although symbolic of the gifts of the three wise men, are not wild, useless trinkets that serve no purpose, and are actually being discouraged. Our gift to some this year is firewood...they did not have the opportunity to stock up (getting married and settling in a new home can do that) but we do not expect anything in return...we were blessed with a surplus and are merely sharing the bounty.

So I agree to a limited "bah humbug" - to those that feel the need to plow through others so that they can get the last (insert the latest gimmick)...and a heartfelt Merry Christmas to those that still understand.
