That should do wonders for police/citizen relations. I don't know about you, but I might be a little nervous talking to a jack-boot with a loaded AR around his neck. They used to call this community policing . . . minus the "papers please" approach of course. Did pretty well in St. Louis from what I recall. Having an officer patrol the neighborhood on foot, actually talking to residents and getting to know them always seemed to have good outcome (e.g., lowering crime) because residents weren't afraid to talk to them--they were like your neighbor. Now . . . .
This Cop is taking the Town's Insurance Carrier for a wild ride. If they run across a Lawyer, or a Rich Dude with a Lawyer, and he does what he talked about at the Thursday Meeting, He, and the Town, are going to get their collective Pants sued Off, in a Giant Way, at the least. They may win in the local Municipal Court, but will certainly LOSE in District, or State Court. SOTUS has RULED that one does NOT have to produce ID, for just being on a PUBLIC Street, PERIOD. His Probable Cause application is TOTAL BS, and will not be upheld in ANY State, or Federal Court. I was glad to see the Mayor, and the Attorney, backed a much different approach, with the "consensual conversation" which If it were "Me", I would just walk away from, without saying a word. If I was detained, they would be on the losing Side in Court, and I would Press the Issue, and ask for Millions in Damages. My Constitutional Rights, are worth that much to "Me".... YMMV.....

I wasnt kidding about the fact that in 3rd world countries its normal for police to carry military or "assult" rifles. Is it good for the USA, of coarse not, will it happen most likley, and on the boarder its been daily life for decades. Surviving Teotwaki may mean keeping clear of the ones brandishing "assult" rifles or it may entail joining them. I dont like it, but the USA will go bankrupt, and likley reach 3rd world status. Hold on to your heart and guns, unfortunately we dont live in Maybury anymore.
I find the whole thing funny hanging rifles on us on patrol. It used to be I pointed a gun at someone took them to jail wrote the report done. Now Point the gun take them into custody, write the report, do a use of force form forward to sgt, who prints report and forwards to commander to give to chief for review. And this is just for pointing or showing the gun god help you if you fire a round. Its funny that they are putting more gear on us for show and reviewing the crap out of what we do with it.
