In my years growing up I've seen an incredible wast of food all around the USA .when I was small we were poor and would not have thought of wasting a single bite of food ,if you didn't finish a meal it was there at the next meal in something what I'm getting at is you will find yourself getting every last morsel of food off your plate. in the coming times food will be at so high or so short of supply you will not want to wast any--you might even find yourself eating things you would never have thought to eat before. just some things I have thought on a lot

Very true. That is why we buy food now. Try to hedge our bets.

For quite a while now, I've got to admit that I've been guilty of tossing entirely too many leftovers. I love to cook, but seem to have a problem cooking for only the 3 of us. Sooo, I've decided my New Year's resolution is to start cooking only 1/2-3/4 of what I normally cook.

Nothing gets wasted here, if the people don't eat it, the dog does.

Well, SHTF ought to cure the obesity epidemic. [tongue]

Not wasting food is actually something I try to instill in my family.

Funny thing, with people complaining <including me> about high grocery prices,,,,, I used to offer them free food from the garden if they would come pick it themselves, they never do, so I dont offer anymore.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I usually eat last night's leftovers for lunch the following day... sometimes the day after that. Whatever goes past the safe time goes to the chickens. As expensive as layer crumbles are now, leftovers are cheap feed.

Our exchange student has never known hunger but her parents have, and she is very conscious of making only what she will eat and of not leaving food behind on her plate as a result. It has made me a lot more aware of how much I fix for dinner and of what is in our fridge and our food waste has dropped considerably as a result. I have become a friggin whiz at making soup out of leftovers.

I have to say tho, the pepperoni, green peas, and onion omelet she made the other day trying to use up a half a can of peas was rather nauseating to view.

I am more concerned about the SHTF that may happen in the post-Obama years. I believe that the trillions of dollars of paper that he has printed, while simultaneously keeping interest rates severely low and also stifling the economy have totally masked the threat of severe inflation that will get ignited once interest rates are allowed to return to "normal" levels and the economy begins to pick up activity and also move toward a more "normal" level of growth.

Those "normals" that I have identified will light the fuse to the ruinous inflation that we will suffer through. This is the trap that Obama has planned to release upon us once he leaves office.

Wasting groceries will not be an option; finding groceries at any kind of affordable price will be the common challenge. I encourage you to start setting aside groceries--especially those which have a long shelf life and provide a lot of nutritional value in a relatively small package.
