    It was recently pointed out that many of us talk in acronyms and terms that while quite familiar to us but might not be so apparent to someone new to the basics of survivalism. Many of these terms are borrowed from military speak.

    In an effort to aid folks to the language of survival, we've begun creating some definitions for certain terms. This is a work in progress and will be expanded as we receive suggestions for terms to include. We also have several others not listed below that correct misspellings or are variations on the term.

    Anytime the forum sees a word or acronym that has been defined, a definition box will pop up upon mouse hover. So far, we have (in no particular order) the following terms:

    Please note, the popup definition no longer works, as of earlier than 2/6/20.

    I tend to use TEOCAWKI instead of TEOTWAWKI.

    I doubt any of us would survive the end of the world...but civilization is a different story.

    Not sure if it is worthwhile to add...

    MSM - mainstream media (e.g., ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC). Those news sources that are sensationalist and left-leaning or do not do what is normally considered "investigative journalism." In general, there is the feeling that they offer opinion or editorial instead of news. They have drank the Kool-Aid, are pro-Obama, anti-gun, and devoid of intellect. People who work there are libtards or libiots.

    EBT - welfare credit cards. These cards are the descendant of "food stamps," which were thought to stigmatize those on welfare.

    Jackboots - cruel, heavy-handed police who do not ascribe to the tenets of the Bill of Rights. These were the hall-monitors in grade-school. They take personal joy/satisfaction from the pain/suffering of civilians at their hands

    snafu
    and
    fubar
    come quickly to mind
    and just a quick note, if possible to have the definition boxes stay open for perhaps 30 seconds more it would allow a slower read and thus, better comprehension

    alos, it may be prudent to include a list of the Alphabet Departments ( aka People Who Make Acronyms)
    ATF= Alcohol Tobacco Firearms
    CBRNE= Chemical Biological Radioactive Nuclear Explosive
    FBI= Federal Bereau of Investigations
    DHS= Department Homeland Security
    CBSA= Canada Border Services Agency
    RCMP=Royal Canadian Mounted Police
    DoJ= Department of Justice
    CSIS= Canadian Security Intelligence Services

    etc......and if I wasn't on a list before....that ought to be enough key words to get on one, maybe even to the front of the line
    but it's all educational

    What browser are you using? In chrome and firefox, they stay open as long as I hover over them.

    The problem with terms like ATF are that they are contained within the tool tip definitions for other items (NFA, etc) and it throws the system in an infinite loop. I had to correct this with a few items already. They could be made to work if I spelled out ATF as Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the other definitions.

    Don't think that I've ignored any of the other suggestions above, just trying to figure out how to write a few of them in a more objective way.

    MZB - Mutant Zombie Biker. A catch all term for various forms of undesirables once the S has HTF. Popularized in the EOTWAWKI novel made famous right here on SurvivalMonkey.com, Lights Out.
