CTD had these years ago. Still in the Crate but looking in the box it is the 25V version.

    value?

With a switching type power converter, you can build a really nice variable Voltage Input, 12 Vdc output Converter, that can be up to 95+% efficient ...

Do you have a link to a tutorial on how to build one? This is something I have been thinking about doing but failed to really look into it yet.

I usually buy OTS Units, depending on the Power Level required.... Most of the Electronic Supply Houses will have a bunch of these type converters....

On call this week and tied to home so I finally unpacked the crate with the generator.
It was damn well packed with waxed paper and plastic. It includes a bunch of regulators and resistors of unknown value I can't read the Chinese manual but I bet if I opened up the case the regulators are in there.
Cranks very easy without a load but once it has a load on it cranking will eat some calories.

I will probably pick up one of these switching switching converters.
There is a mount for another unknown device between the generator and seat the converter should mount there.

Some of your links are inoperative.

I'd hook it up to a bicycle instead of hand cranking it.

    It has to be easier.

I'd just use a generator from a car and hook it up to the bicykle. Now we are talking cheaper AND easier and with manuals written in understandable languages. We should start a business, you and me ;)

You must have some massive thighs if you think you can spin it up to 1000-5000 RPM ;) They are generally designed to spin at 2000-10000RPM, and even with some modifications, Half speed was the best these guys were able to do. Using an Alternator in Renewable Energy Projects

Haven't read through it I'm afraid, too many long words for my English to handle.
But, we did it in a class back in school using a mountainbike and gearing it up. It worked fine actually :)

Car alternators are not the most efficient way to generate electricity, in FACT they are notoriously inefficient in electrical power generation, when looked at from the HP In/ Power Out, comparison. When installed in a car, HP in, is basically irrelevant, to reliability of operation. These things do not care how inefficient they are as long as they WORK. If you want an efficient Producer of electricity, look toward a Permeant Magnet DC Generator. Also understand, that Humans, even the best athletes can't produce more than about 100 watts, on a continuous basis, thru ANY mechanical device. So if your interested in long term power generation, Human Power is NOT a viable alternative, in the real world. ......

Clearly human power is not a long term option as I stated in the initial post you are using calories to create electricity.
But it is a short term option.

Better to let wind or water do the work, but if you are a health nut, you could rig up a squirrel cage large enough to walk or jog in, or walk the dogs in.;)

If it is AC, then a fullwave bridge rectifier (or four diodes of sufficient amperage rating) could be used to make it DC. Then it could be used to recharge two 12 V batteries, or two nine volt batteries, hooked in series. The charging voltage has to be higher than the rated battery voltage anyway.

One other thing. If you have got to have juice for some reason, then calories don't much matter.

If you plugged you variable voltage DC Output, from the Full Wave Bridge Rectifier, into an MTTP Charge Controller, (MX-60 Outback Power Systems, or similar) and used that to do the DC/DC Conversion to whatever your Battery Bank/Buss voltage was then you wouldn't be worried about any specific Battery type, or Bank/Buss Voltage, that needed to be recharged. These are very efficient in doing the voltage conversions. (Like in the 95=% Efficient) .....

When I use a 12 volt battery with my inverter I reserve an outlet for a trickle charger to keep the charge up while it's in use.A hand or pedal cranked alternator would keep some charge while using 12volt electronics and during long downtimes. You can always find replacement components scavenging if needed. No need to plan a trip to China for spare parts during an apocalypse.
