Im not sure were this should go so i putt it here !

I was talking with some guys at work today and they said they have been ordering groceries from AMAZON...
I was wondering has anyone else done this ????
    My questions are
What is the price difference and do you see any difference in the quality of food???
They said they are ordering produce and such and it is Great ....
They also said they order it at night and it is on there door step in the morning >>>>
    {i know in my area i would be worried about coons and such getting into it but if it works and is fairly reasonable it would be great for my family ...}

I have never purchased food from Amazon but every time have returned an item it was no questions asked with them picking up the return shipping cost.

I never have purchased food from Amazon but we do have a Prime account and use the heck out of it. We purchase everything from dog food, supplements to electronics and have it fast... and correct everytime. I will have to look into what they are doing for food and try it out if it meets our needs.

We got a 6pack of Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa Powder(8oz containers) last month from, cheaper than in town. We've gotten some food items from them before too, snack foods mostly(CHEEZ-ITS!). Not everything is cheaper though, at least for us. Though if it's only a dollar or two more, we wouldn't mind getting it, since it saves us an hour each way to buy it in town. Never bought fresh produce from them though. Checked out the pet food there, and it was twice the price we could get it for in town. And price does flucuate on lots of items. And there are different vendors selling the same item for different prices as well. But that's one of the things I love about Amazon, being able to compare prices in one place.

Another option is from the hated Wallyworld online. We use them for staples & paper goods and they have about 60-70% coverage of Augason Farms. Free shipping over 40-50 bucks. So far no problems and arrives fairly quickly. If the order has to come from multiple points shipping is still free if the total order meets the original requirement for free shipping. That includes the Augason Farms which most always comes straight from Augason Farms.

Carter "universal type" chassis mounted fuel pump went out on the R/V. None of the local parts houses had anything that was not made in China. Checked with Amazon and they had the pump--$4 cheaper than the Chinese Airteck brands. Will be doing a lot of checking with them from now on.

I bounce most all my purchases off Amazon. Often they have the best deal.

I did this for a short time. Amazon has (had ?) a program called "Subscribe and save.", where one could place an order for a specified amount of selected (by Amazon) food item and then choose the interval at which you wanted the next shipment.

It was actually good for awhile, them they switched the program over from everyday goods to specialty items.

That was when we cancelled, but it was good while it lasted.

On a side note, we placed an order with Augason Farms last Friday and received a notice stating our order would take 7 to 10 business days to process due to the volume of orders.

Looks like everybody is still stocking up.

I have a Prime membership and Amazon loses money on that proposition. Even with the increase in cost, I save more in shipping charges than I spend on the membership. Amazon is one of if not the first place I look for almost anything.

I haven't done any groceries but anything non-perishable is almost always cheaper there if you look around.

For example, I got some 3M Steri-Strips off of amazon, 20x 3 strip packages...$6 with free two day shipping. These were packaged like Dr. office/hospitals use, no the grocery store packaging and don't expire until 2018.

I've bought laptop batteries (80% discount from ANYWHERE else), medical equipment, batteries, emergency equipment (glow sticks, Datrex bars, backpacks, knives) & books just to name a few (yes, physical paper books), all types of gifts for the family and I use it for the 3 shows I still bother to watch (don't have TV/Cable at the house anymore...don't even have an HD antenna).

If you shop Amazon, be sure to use the referal link from the Monkey and kick a little back to the site!

I've used the "subscribe and save" for several items, it's a great way to build up a inventory of frequently used items. Do be careful tho, while Amazon is generally cheaper or just a buck or two more than local stores, there are items where they are much more expensive.
The batteries for my cordless tools (Ryobi, 18V li-ion), P107 - on Amazon they are 58.39 and at HD they are 45.00, both place charge tax now so that's a bummer (Amazon had a deal with TN to not charge TN residents sales tax for 3 years or so, that time has run out, so now we get dinged for sales tax on amazon orders).
Also, don't forget teh $4.00 overnight shipping on any item. Need a new golf cart battery tomorrow? $4.00 shipping. Yeah, we've used the $4.00 overnight shipping a few times, but mostly the benefit of the prime membership is free 2 day shipping.

There was a story last year around Christmas time where someone did a test of Amazon's free 2-day shipping. The found the single heaviest item they could afford on Amazon, which turned out to be a 25+ long gun safe that weighed several hundred pounds (something is tickling my spidey senses and i want to say it was over 1000 but I can't substantiate that). It was also, go figure, cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else.

True to their word, Amazon shipped that bad boy 2-day for free. They calculated that shipping was something like $500.

On that note, I have literally ordered things on Amazon on Sunday night after 8:00 PM EST and received them by 2:00 on Monday with the free 2-day shipping. That's...scary.

Ok, update. Marketwatch was the one that did the test. The safe weighed 1600 lbs. (Shipping weight) And the manufaturing company (Cannon Safe) typically charges $700 to ship to the customer!

I'm one of those guys who gets all I can through free or reduced shipping for bargain or at least competitive prices. Standard shipping adds up to a chunk over a few months and years.

Just looked up the safe referenced in the article, it's no longer a "prime item", and shipping is $840.49.

I did find other safes on prime and some not on prime but with free shipping.

Still amazing what they can ship and how fast they get it to you.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I get our dog food from Amazon, for about $12 a bag less than Petco, plus free shipping with Prime. Haven't really tried grocery shopping with them beyond the occasional exotic that I can't find around here.

Wow! Talk about a DERP moment. I've never even thought to look for dog food on there and what do you know...they sell it and it's prime.

We feed the Greyhound Victor Chicken and Rice (Orange bag). Now I just have to hit the "local" place (half hour drive each direction) and see if it's less than $54.95/bag. I honestly don't remember.

    More spiffs for the monkey!

There's an App you can get that tells you when items are cheapest online (I heard it on the news - haven't even researched it yet) and when, since online items' prices change several times each day.

@Tracy I use an app called ShopSavy when shopping in my bargin/discount stores. The app tells me the cheapest price online and in brick & mortar stores. Not sure that it can tell you WHEN it's cheapest to buy, I just use it compare a discounted price to the actual price.
