    I have some friends that bought an old RV. They gutted the back half, getting rid of the master bed and put in bunks plus added lots of storage.

    Yes i believe that u can pull one of them "tear drop" style campers behind a car and i have seen ones small enuff to pull behind a motorcycle...
    But all that is ,is a tent on wheels ... cant even stand up in them

    There is a "pop up" that is a triangle shape when raised. About right for two people and can be car towed.

    We have been looking at trailers and that is most likely the avenue we will be going. I dislike the camper option as that eliminates the option to carry a load in the truck even though you can drag a utility or boat trailer with a camper. I have the ability to pull a large trailer with a camper but would rather have a trailer/home on wheels, that I can place in whatever position and use the truck for other activities. A camper limits that a bit in my opinion and does not provide the same living space and function for a family as a trailer might do. I guess it is personal preference and what works best for your needs, family size, and current toys/trailers/equipment... and so on.

    And on a tactical movement perspective.... if you run into a SHTF type situation... you can drop the trailer and get the hell out of dodge.... quickly... wear-as a camper takes much more time to unload and would require a cross load of food and such to keep on truckin.... IMO.
    Not sure if that makes sense... but a tactical move should allow for flexibility... and a camper does not in my book.

    I polled the kids yesterday and they voted RV. I have a neighbor that has a camper and a pop-up. Depending on the weather they use one or the other. I know that a pop up isn't a good investment because CO gets cold.

    For us,4 wheel drive pick up and larger cap. Can go where an RV(MH or TT)can't. Think what you have carefully assembled as your BOB and man portable gear. Now multiply that by say five and that is a lot of gear. If you still need a trailer look into the "mule" type off road trailers we Jeepers use. Most of them start out as used utility trailers converted and rigged to suit your own wants/needs. Even on a slim budget these rigs can be set up (it isn't about shiny)and if you never need it for SHTF bugout Think of it as the means to get where you don't have to listen to the other campers obnoxious music and screaming kids.

    I'd avoid anything so desirable that I have to spend all my time defending it. I'd go with small, simple, concealable. Probably go with a truck and trailer combo to haul gear, ATV's, etc. Probably also sleep in a small concealed tent nearby as I can hear everything from a tent and wouldn't be likely to be the focus of any intruder.

    Had to vote 'RV', as my true vehicle for this is not listed. I have my late father's old 1986 Ford E150 van. I am in the process of converting it to a camper van. Also have an open 5X10 utility trailer to pull behind, to carry my motorcycle (local area runabout and emergency BO vehicle) and additional gear/supplies. Several stout steel lock boxes will secure the more valuable stuff.
    Current daily driver is a Dodge Grand Caravan - not a great choice as it's smaller and much less ground clearance. But I have camped in it a few times.

    I chose camper, but my choice is kind of a hybrid because it's the minimalist style RV on a truck or van chassis I like. Technically, perhaps a camper.


    This is the pinnacle of expedition vehicles, at only a mere $400,000.00

    I have to admit I have been looking at older RV's. A home away from home. The family voted and we do like the RV better then a trailer/camper pull type. There are some good deals out there. IMO it is like a second home that you can hop in and move. But you could also have you normal car drive in front to scout things out while you relocate.
