Have had a pair of FiveFingers for many moons. In fact, I was one of the early people to use them. At least in Hawaii. It is old, beat up and coming apart.

My newish pair. It has a more aggressive tread for trail, but is not as comfortable as the original, which is slippery on muddy and wet trail surfaces, like rocks and logs. And you feel every rock and root. The new one also is thicker and rocks and roots are less likely to make you feel them as much.

Nice. I think Melbo has said he likes those things, too. I never really tried them. As close as I have been to the natural feel has been with the Nike 5.0 shoes, which are very minimalist to begin with. I imagine these five fingers shoes are only different in that the toes are separated.

The FiveFingers KSO (my old pair) are much thinner in the sole than any minimalist shoe I have.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I have a pair. At first I tried wearing them with toe socks but my little toes protested too much so now I wear them sans socks. I don't like how they look _at all_ but I like stepping on stickers even less so they're the closest I can get to barefoot while running amok outside. These are the Speed XC Lite.

As suggested by @Bear. I'm going to try and make waraji sandals. O

I think I have an old pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals somewhere.... might be Michelins... good for 100,000 miles or so... decent tread as well...

Yup @Hanzo ... everyone needs to know how to first make cordage... then how to weave... making these is one of the first things on the list... IMHO...

Hmmm... make them out of paracord and you will always have enough cord for any emergency...

But no shoes. Perhaps a double sole with detachable parscord sole.

I do. To return them to shoe form would take quite a while. Time you may not have.

your feet will toughen up... but you need food and shelter to give them time....

My feet would take a long time , and abuse to toughen up. I am required to wear work boots every day. Grass and sand or dirt? No problem, but I feel every small or sharp rock....a lot.

Paracord might be slippery. Maybe do the laces in paracord. Shouldn't be too hard to take the inner strands and use the sheath to lace up with. Won't look as cool as all jute, but will probably be practical. Call them tactical warajis?

@Witch Doctor 01 I have a book that shows how to make those ... and it's a good idea to at least know a bit about how to use what may be around you in an urban or wild setting to either repair or make foot gear... take care of your feet and they will take care of you ;) pretty important... cordage, weaving and then the possibilities are endless for shelter, food gathering, mobility etc... JMHO ;)
