I am not going to give 100's of examples but I am going to ask that people share ideas, give 100's of examples. Let's pretend there are no guns. Fellow monkey @ditch witch wrote-
Look around the room you are in, do you see something that you could use as a weapon?

Look around your kitchen, anything there? I see a cast iron fry pan that could be used in close contact. Knives, chili powder and basic forks could save you and your family. What could you put on the other side of the door or window to deter/slow someone from raiding your home? What about using all the cords in your home to tack across windows to slow invasion? Curtain rods, standing lamps, or dowels from the banister all can be used.

a sock full of wet sand or other heavy objects.... alternately a chain dogs leash with 8 ounce fishing weights on each end (home made Manriki) warning this is a very effective weapon but takes some skill/training to use

Best security preps info found in Joel Skousen's (The Secure Home: Joel Skousen: 9781568610559: Amazon.com: Books) which gave us many ideas along with James Wesley Rawles' https://smile.amazon.com/Holding-Your-Ground-Preparing-Defense/dp/0615497551.

Thanks to Amazon Prime to enable easy purchase with delivery to our UPS Store box so that no one knows our actual home address except closest friends and family -- not even utilities or Internet ISP, since we keep them in another name. Thus, no one ever knocks on our door who we would need to answer.

For greater computer security/anonymity, we always use a VPN service via a dedicated VPN router (Sabai Technology) for tablets - iPod - smart phones - VOIP phone -PCs under one VPN company and separate VPN company for the PCs themselves. Use a small company ISP that doesn't retain user logs longer than 2 weeks -- avoided big name ISP (no anti-gun Comcast or AT&T who indefinitely keep user logs). Use Linux Tails-Tor as needed for even better anonymity -- not frequently needed. Good ideas found in Boston T. Party's excellent-as- usual One Nation, Under Surveillance -- Privacy From the Watchful Eye: Boston T. Party, Kenneth W. Royce and J.J. Luna's How to Be Invisible: Protect Your Home, Your Children, Your Assets, and Your Life

@Motomom34, Fortunately, we don't have to pretend there are no guns. But, nevertheless, guns or no guns, both this 7-1/2" Blade Length, 9-1/4" Handle (Overall Length: 16-3/4" - a "pocket sword"!) Cold Steel Espada XL (Amazon.com : Cold Steel G-10 Espada Knife : Hunting Knive) in my right front pocket and this Made in USA 3.3" blade Spyderco Manix G-10 Plain Edge Knife (Spyderco Manix G-10 Plain Edge Knife, Black [IMG]
tucked away discreetly in the knife pocket of my 5.11 TacLite Pro pants are my primary EDC thanks to Nutnfancy recommendations along with his suggested Gun-Knife Fanny Pack - Bum Bag (Pacsafe Luggage Stashsafe 200 Gii Hip Pack - Amazon.com: Pacsafe Luggage Stashsafe 200 Gii Hip Pack, Black) holding a 7+1 round Ruger LC9 pocket 9mm and three spare of the new 9 round Ruger magazines with Buffalo Bore JHP +P+ (9mm Luger (+P) And (+P+) Handgun Ammunition) where legally appropriate. I carry these EDC pack everywhere I go and at all times at home, except when asleep where it is on the night stand. Always carry the Leatherman Juice S2 multi-tool (Amazon.com: LEATHERMAN 832005 Juice(R) S2 Multi-Tool Cinnabar Orange) along with the EDC 192 lumen flashlight and 2 spare AAA Sanyo Enloop rechargeables (FOURSEVENS Preon 2 / P2 Blue Flashlight Finish Cool White LED G2; 2XAAA 192 lumens - Basic Handheld Flashlights) and in my back left pocket at all times is the 2-shot pepper spray "pistol" the Kimber Pepperblaster 2 Grey (Amazon.com : Kimber Pepperblaster 2 Grey)

Plus we have large fire extinguishers in all rooms of the home: kitchen, bedrooms, hallways, living room, office, bathroom, garage, laundry room, storage room, shed.

Also discreetly wall-mounted in several key rooms is the Ruger Pepper Spray (Amazon.com : Ruger Pepper Spray Ultra System (Black) : Self Defense Pepper Spray : Sports & Outdoors with 125 Decibel Alarm and Bright Strobe Light. Plus some Amazon.com : Cold Steel Inferno 10.5 oz. (300 gram unit) Pepper Spray : Bear Protection : Sports & Outdoors

We keep some of the smallest sized little league sized baseball bats (small and won't hit the ceiling so easily) handy next to the bed, under couches and arm-chairs just in case.

Then we protect exterior and bedroom doors with door protection, door and door frame protection: Door Jamb Armor - Door Security, Jamb Reinforcement Jamb Repair - Armor Concepts (Amazon.com: Armor Concepts LLC SET-EZA-10000 RP EZ Armor Combo Reinforcing Kit: Home Improvement) plus Door Stopper - Resists Over Two Tons of Force - Protect Your Home with the Club : Home Security and a steel security screen door. Replaced important interior hollow core with steel ones.

Windows reinforced with 12 Mil Clear Security Window Film 30" Wide x 15 ft Roll (Amazon.com - 12 Mil Clear Security Window Film 30" Wide x 15 ft Roll - Window Dressing Hardware and steel bars in certain cases, other windows with eithe blackberry bush or climbing rose bushes on trellis.

Plus appropriate unnamed alarm system including Amazon.com: Chamberlain CWA2000 Wireless Motion Alert System (Black), Mr. Beams MB280 ReadyBright Wireless Power Outage LED Whole House Lighting System - Close To Ceiling Light Fixtures - Amazon.com, several of these wonderful security lights (Mr Beams MB360 Wireless LED Spotlight with Motion Sensor and Photocell - Weatherproof - Battery Operated - 140 Lumens - Landscape Spotlights), several outdoor-rated HD 1080P Security Cameras (with 15m Night Vision, Motion Sensor, SD card DVR using 64Gb SD cards) and a 2 guard dogs (one indoor Doberman and one outdoor German Shepherd)

This is not to mention the necessary home defense multiple Glocks in hidden, yet easily accessible, places in each major room, rifles and shotguns and lots of ammo / spare mags, since we are pretending there are no guns. Thanks again to the learned patriot Boston T. Party / Kenneth Royce (Javelin Press - Your Source for Books by Boston T. party - Kenneth W. ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

    Office
The model horses on my desk can put out an eye if you stab their legs into one.
The camera hurts if you swing it by it's strap.
    Scissors. Nuff said.
The hand pump for my yoga ball has a 2" long needle on one end.
The numerous wine bottles in the rack by the Mr.'s desk smash nicely over someone's head.

    Kitchen
    Skillets, knives, forks, ice pick
2, 5 gallon buckets full of salt (a few handfuls thrown at someone's eyes)
Wasp spray (not hugely painful but can slow someone down a bit)
    More wine bottles

    Living room
Potted plants. Hey, throw it at someone's head, bound to at least get dirt in their eyes.

    Hallway
Pair of Sai mounted on the wall

    Bedroom
    a hundred pairs of stilettos

    Garage
Too much to mention. Golf clubs, shovels, hoes, 2x4s, bamboo poles, a hay hook

We also have a few traditional bows, and I'm nagging for a compound bow.

    Passive Deterrents
We've got a lot of scrap IBC tote cages that could be easily cut and affixed over windows to prevent easy access. Also a number of welded wire cow panels I use for trellises that could be relocated, used to cage off the front and back porch to slow someone down.
Add rabbit wire over them and that would stop bricks or molotovs being chucked through the windows.
Also a lot of pallets for my many pallet projects, and can cut the slats off them to board over entry points.

I have a wide variety of melee weapons scattered about the house. Several swords, clubs, a few hardwood canes, and several staffs, both wood and metal. My shield will stop a .38, and has done so. Quarterstaff is my first choice most of the time.

In my desk at work I keep pepper spray but I also have other weapons. I have my letter opener, scissors and I keep golf tees, these fit nicely between my fingers facing outward. Plus a staple is heavy and good for throwing.

Even going into a bare room you should already have your weapon with you. Your brain is the weapon, everything else are just tools.

Anything that can be used as a force magnifier can be used effectively if that brain thing is in gear. When I walk outside at night with the dogs I eyeball the wrought iron bird feeder posts. Anything can be thrown, swung, or jabbed with.
