Did not want to say weapons. But having just returned from my business trip, I thought I would share a couple of CQC items I always take with me when I travel, and not just by plane.

Usually have a magazine and a pen. I like metal pens. Can you say espada y daga?

I never bother with the cord on the rolled up magazine. It was just to keep it tight for the picture. Even at home, if I get a dodgy feeling going somewhere, you can bet a magazine is getting rolled up and will be in my hand. I even practiced it in a corporate environment. Walk around with a magazine, no one notices. Roll it up to better hold it...registers nada on most folks. If the spidey senses are tingling, it feels great to have something at hand. You can even have the metal pen in a reverse grip in your other hand out of sight.

I was jumped once in an alley at night by three druggies and having something in hand made it a non-event in seconds. It was a stick that time. :D

Like I tell my monkeys, I grew up playing with sticks and string. And they are still some of my favorite toys.

Anything can be a weapon... the key is to have the right mindset to endure the coming attack. If you register the threat prior to them getting in position, you have won half the battle. You either A have the choice to withdraw or B the initiative to properly prepare to whatever is within reach... and mentally to focus ones self for the altercation to come..... the key is to have thought it through and pick the best option.... for the circumstance, your skill, and what is available around you!!

Nice @Hanzo yup... the more you "pack" into your mind... the less you need to carry and more you can improvise just as effectively if not more... Nice...
@Yard Dart sometimes the "battle" is already won before the first blow is struck ;)

Winning the fight without fighting is always a goal. You must have read Sun Tzu's Art of War. Great book, as is Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings. Reading The 36 Stratagems now.

@Hanzo read Mushashi's "Dokkodo" written later in his life just before he died... 21 Rules for life... Although you definitely won't like #13 ;)

Where do you find "Dokkodo?" Not in library nor Amazon.

    Thanks Buddy!

Hey, with a rule like #13, his whole deal is bunk! Might have to toss my Go Rin No Sho too. ;)

Have never liked the name "defensive weapon". The best defense is a good offense. Either run (which is a good alternative) or attack with an unbridled vengeance and fury. I like the Biblical passage--"As much as is in you be at peace with man". Be peaceful but like the general said--be prepared to kill if necessary.

They are his rules not mine. Probably influenced by Bushido although perhaps that might be a violation of rule # 15.

    Miyamoto Musashi's Dokkodo.
