Kerosene heater question

It's not the machine (Bell 407,206 H500c,d,e) but WHERE it runs & the temps it runs in. Ja/4 is diesel #1 filtered , Jb5 is Diesel #2 but a lighter cut & filtered, then into mixing of Naphtha & diesel #2 for J5-8 ,, (Acetone / MEK) kills , don't breath it .

My lamp experience, Poor young lady was burn't bad , at a hippy fest .

I just know that if you use straight Diesel , Kerosene ,lamp oil it has a set flame front , once you add Naptha /Acetone, MEK plus many more even benzine (gas) your temp flame front can change BIG time . Cool it might work well , but after a hour the fuel below the flame can do a boil of the lighter flash offs , till boom !!!!

Im talking my Aladdin its a true oil lamp that sips fuel & gives bright yellow light, I have 4 + many spare parts

Most times all it takes is a phone call to the operations office of the airfield for a yes / no on if you can get any. There's a very, very small airfield near me where the answer was "Yes", but I'd need to buy 15 gallons minimum.

A larger field nearer my employer's office said "No."

Might have something to do with keeping people unfamiliar with propeller's from walking into them.

 

You 2 have me wondering about my lamp oil as maw maw would say, However...Weather permitting I will fill a lamp and fire it up and place it in the yard, I want to see if it burns or blows, Either way...Still cool!

 

Im saying if indoors & the fuel gets hot enough , it can run away & cause a fire . The explosion I witnessed was in 70's with an Aladdin lamp & the incorrect fuel . It had traces of naphtha & since i was able to get turbine fuel for northern areas I was questioned ..

Thats all im trying to get across .

Yes A Blue Grass 70's party on Simpsons Farm . Many a young folk as I once was . Someone added either helicopter turbine fuel / jet fuel or straight Naphtha thinking it was like a Coleman lantern. Either way the Lamp blew up & a pretty woman was badly burnt.
I had drunk beer so I was no real help & the next day showed the real damage. Only place to get turbine fuel was the airport & from the two helicopter companys there . QCI & OK-Dokie , so we were questioned . Buddy (the late Charlie ) grabbed a machine & flew the injured woman to the QCI hospital . He & Jihl flew better hung or tipsy than sober , but made those last fate mistakes .

So that is why I say once you get a run-a-way lamp , your in the danger zone of try to get it out of the house.
Even my Aladdin's , I fire up in daylight / dusk & let idle to warm up so I don't get into a coking of the mantle ..

Coleman lantern, Those back in the day were notorious for blowing up, Today, Not so much since a Coleman is a major challenge to the hands off generation. But I see what your saying!

 

I rebuilt one a couple of years ago, for a hunting challenge/test. Works fine. I refer to a Coleman white gas, pump up two mantle lantern.

 

Why yes that's the one, At one time people thought they could run Amoco 100 octane thru these, I don't think it worked out so well.

 

Not a good plan it is believed, that they shed the very best light for a night blood trail. I intend to prove it true or false, with a side by side comparison.

 

We would put a double layer of aluminum foil inside covering 1/2 of the glass, This throws more light forward, Great for night fishing off a dock.

 

Yep, it has been done that way, but the uneven heat shatters the globes. That is why they went to the sliding brackets for exterior reflectors. (To get the heat away from the glass.)

 

Ah Yes, You are correct, I work offshore for them for 14 years and we spell it Amoceaux, Corporate loved us.
