    Would be better no doubt, but the report said the device couldn't read through a sheet metal material.

    Naw, 5/16" AR 500 less weight and better stopping power than standard steel plate.:D

    Like many materials the prices fluctuate, but around here the AR plate would still be cheaper because of its thickness compared to the 1/2" standard plate. Also depends greatly on how much material you'd buy at a time. All of my steel targets that I've made are out of the AR plate. They hold up for years, and by adding stiffeners they will not bow after repeated hits.

    Plate might be a good idea, or maybe not. Make sure that the structure will take the weight.
