As I took my walk tonight, the shards of ice pelted my hands and my face until I thought they would draw blood. Its not a pretty night, just bitterly cold and stormy.

I usually take such pleasure in my night time walks but not this year for some reason. I can't even recall exactly why I used to enjoy them so much but I guess it fits my mood, dark and cold.

Maybe spring will make me smile again

I hope that you regain your smile soon RH, it is only right because of all the smiles you have given us Monkeys over the years!

I like the poetry of your prose....and, although dark and sombre; I propose that your mood may soon lighten, and the warmth of your smile may be also be delightin', well before the spring equinox.

May joy find you on your walks once more!! I do enjoy the solitude, the sounds of the birds, the wind in the tree's as I walk the trails.
I pray that the "dark and cold" season passes, and you soon bloom with cheer and a warm heart, as the spring melts away the snow.

I want to walk in the summer sun and taste berry juice and wine on my lips, smell the damp moss in the morning and hear the peepers at night. Snow is mostly silent which can be a beautiful sound but I long to sit in the little river that runs through my land and feel the cool water rush over me, washing away the melancholy until I feel renewed and filled with life again.

I will likely lose my man card for this, but that is so beautiful!

I suppose those dim lonely quiet times are a necessary part of a full life... they certainly make me pensively ponder all the ups and downs, storms weathered and seemingly endless losses and obstacles overcome somehow... but most of all... they make me grateful... it really is a good life... and it does seem like there's always dark, quiet and still... just before the light, warmth and hope of dawn... then you realize... those things you maybe thought were gone or lost.... were still with you all along....

Look up in the trees and around in the brush... Lots of us "Monkeys" here and watching out for each other... just a knowing look away...

My thanks too... for all the years of smiles.... happy good things are on their way to you and your little river ;)

May there always be work for your hands to do
    (traditional Celtic blessing)
May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine upon your window pane.
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near to you and
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

The older i get the more i appreciate the spring, summer, and fall, i know there is beauty in the winter but it is dark, cold, and gloomy. Also winter is snynomous with death. Buck up, spring is right around the corner. Better yet come to the land of enchantment i will show you great new mex food, fresh brewed beer and what writers have called Gods country, the pecos wilderness. I recently went through the darkest period if my life, but now all is well. This might sound corny but there people that care about you, people that have never seen your face or heard your voice.

Unsure of events in your life but sounds like winter blues to me. New England has been one long winter this year. Hang in there @RightHand one day when you are walking you will spot a purple crocus announcing spring is finally here.

RH is, and has been for a long time, our resident poet laureate. No matter what's going on, now and then she's stricken with thoughts that need to be let out, the good and less good.

(And those crocii don't seem to care when they come up. If they even think there might be water coming down to the roots, they'll poke thru the snow. 'Roun deez pahts, they say spring is here even when it's 3 weeks to greenup and ground thaw.)

This is a song by a guy that was a hero of mine while I was growing up and later on I'm proud to say we met and became friends.

Its been forty-five days since the snows have begun
I stare at the fire and long for the sun
As the bitter winds blow through the mouth of the pass
I sit here and dream of the Buffalo grass

The ponies are shaggy; their coats have grown long
With heads down, they huddle together as one
At the window my breath forms a mist on the glass
As I patiently wait for the Buffalo grass

    The Seasons still turn
    And the prairies still yearn
For those who were here long ago
The Sioux have all gone and the Bison moved on
Soon, I will follow them home

Mollie passed in September and left me alone
Now my heart is as heavy and round as a stone
Too many years have gone by too fast
And I long for the feel of the Buffalo grass

The animals sleep while the world holds it’s breath
The woods are as still and as silent as death
When the mountain streams flow, spring will follow at last
And the wind will blow free through the Buffalo grass

    The Seasons still turn
    And the prairies still yearn
For those who were here long ago
The Sioux have all gone and the Bison moved on
Soon, I will follow them home

The geese will return, a symbol of change
The elk will be foraging out on the range
Once again nature’s palette will color the pass
And I will find peace in the Buffalo grass
Yes, I will find peace in the Buffalo grass
