Yeah, interesting, but little new for those of us that have actually been camping. (Not to mention some practical limitations if backpacking is the goal. And hide your valuables in a bar of soap? Hm.)
I liked the magic mushroom scavenger hunt concept. Firewood, kindling and, water in buckets would also be good scavenger hunt options for bored underemployed children.
Being able to start a fire in the rain is a trick we need to know. Hitting a target at 500+ yds will put you "out of range" of most.
Getting the fire pit out of the rain, is just a matter of observation. Then starting the fire, with wet combustibles, is a good skill to have down pat..... OpSec says fire smoke, is BAD! unless you are looking for Rescue, then it is Good. Shelter is good. Water is Good, unless your knee deep in it, and it is over 20 Yds to the nearest Dry Ground, or, Full of nasty Reptiles. Notes from the Sky God....
When our kids where too little to make fire, and they asked me how to start one, I told them to rub two sticks together but didn't tell them how. They kept busy for hours rubbing sticks against each other. When my girls grew tired of doing it, they got the boys at camp to. Kept them busy and out of trouble. And entertained me for hours. ;D When they got a little older, did teach them to make fire.
