you should consider power fly swatting for those insectoid pests... take a air rifle/ pellet gun... cock it ... now this next part is important...do not load a pellet... then when a pesky bug comes near point an aim... it improves your skills with rifles on moving targets, and your reaction times... the down side is you can't collect a trophy for the taxidermist...

    YMMV:)

I may try that bucket trap at my hunting cabin. Mice are a problem for the bedding and cushions there. Thanks.[winkthumb]

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

The bucket trap is an old favorite. You can also make them with a toilet paper roll. Or a piece of PVC pipe. I really liked the soda bottle trap that came up after the bucket trap video. A chopstick, two rubber bands, a soda bottle, and a paperclip. Cool little piece of machinery.

They work great. I have been using them for years. Only difference is mine use a piece of broom handle where this guy uses the wire and can. Pretty much the same thing.

I have seen 55 gallon versions of this for catching turtles. Mongo loves some turtle soup.

no and no bait is really necessary. it is done with 2 planks (boards if you prefer) and a hinge. Turtles are not all that smart, and they like high vantage points to sun themselves and watch for danger. The large plank acts as the ramp to a higher point. The smaller short plank has a hinge on its underside mounted offset from the balance point length ways. With the short plank held perpendicular to end of the long plank, you secure the other side of the hinge to the topside end of long plank and over the bucket. This contraption will act like a plank teeter totter. turtle crawls up the plank seeking apex. Just before he gets to end of shorter plank, it tips and dumps turtle in drum. I would love to provide a picture, but if you read and comprehend, I think I just did. Canoe up and snatch your barreled turtles out of drum and into transport container. Wallah, turtle soup on the hoof.

Not a good idea. You can quickly damage an air rifle by letting the spring slam home on an empty chamber.

Yes, in a way. I have a "mosquito magnet" which is this in a more refined form. Mosquitoes are drawn to co2, which all of their prey breathes. They are drawn to the fan, only by air pressure (and held there) and YOU are the bait.
Mosquitoes live, and die in a range of a mile or two at most, and once you break the breeding cycle, you will have a lot less coming back.
Leave your traps running for two weeks, and you will have a much more pleasant summer.

    What is a co2 trap?

My mosquitoe magnet burns propane, to make co2. This draws them in close, then the fan sucks them in. They also make a scent tab that you insert in the nose cone, that is a sex lure that works on some breeds at certain times. All of them are drawn to co2, because they are blood suckers.

There are different kinds of pest, therefore it is important to have complete pest control procedure.

Up here we consider Black & Brown Bears, PESTS.... Best not to have to deal with them, if it can be avoided, but if you MUST, then Total Animation is the wisest choice....
