Ever thought of your cell phone as a survival tool other then placing a call to 9 1 1? How to Use a [BUSTED] Cell Phone to Meet 5 Basic Survival Needs Wilderness Survival Cell Phone | The Art of Manliness Follow to Wilderness Survival Cell Phone | The Art of Manliness for the rest of the article. I am sure most of us have a broken cell phone at home. I say crack them open and start learning these survival uses.
Sorry, but the time and energy taken to rip apart and manage those parts into something useable far outweighs any advantages I see. Besides, I can do everything they list with items found in nature already or another (and easier) method. Now, strictly as a survival item from being a victim of a downed aircraft or something, sure...the mirror idea may work fine. I wouldn't go all out messing with sharp little tech pieces and cut my fingers, get an infection and die before help arrives because I read some damn article telling me I could do 85 things with my broken phone. Hell, even a working cellphone is almost worthless as far as I am concerned. But that's just me.
I thought cellphones were for throwing at door to door salesmen...or just people you don't want at your house period
My son has a few broken ones that we will be dissecting. You made some very valid points @Brokor regarding cuts and infection. But all in the spirit of learning and thinking, we have to try. My youngest took apart an old TV and he retrieved all sorts of stuff that he said was useful.
Learning and thinking is fine, and I offered some common sense to go hand-in-hand with the information you provided. I hope you do not see this as abrasive, since this was not my intent. I do support thinking, but not the application of unsound principles which do not outweigh the traditional ones. If it's outdoor related, I submit we delve more into bushcraft and using what nature provides, or if we are to attempt using tech for dissected parts, make it an urban hack topic.
@Brokor no issue here. I see your point. If you want more bushcraft, introduce some topics. Actually, one issue with the bushcraft videos is the stuff just seems to be there. When they need flint rock there it is. They find the perfect rock for an arrow head. They have unlimited access to the perfect branches for shelters. But their ideas help me see better. Everything learned is a bonus for me.
