It's a good thing (for now) the sun has gone quiet. Still, anything can happen, we are due for a big one.

I chose "marshmallows" because it was a good thought to have.

Two generators in a metal shed, isolated by wood floor and shed is grounded.
All the household electronics would be toast if hard wired to chargers, but the IDEN phones are in the safe, and the ham radio Is in the truck. They should survive.
(12 hrs notice would be plenty of time, to place All electronics inside steel wrappers.

12 hours is pessimistic. CMEs usually take on the order of days to get here. IIRC they say the Carrington event was a quicky, took over 17 hours.

I could place everything in the shed and safe, seal all seams with metalized tape, AND take a nap, in that time. The key is the alert time.

12 hours is enough time to attach long wires to everybody I hate - "C'mon, man, it'll save your life by discharging the energy. I saw it on "Entertainment Tonight" and it was on FaceBook...".

All you have to do to defeat the Carrington Effect is disconnect your stuff from the Grid with a 4 Wire Disconnect.... (Two Hots, Neutral, and Ground) and then run your stuff from your local Genset, that has it's own Independent Ground Rod (Separately Derived Source) and One and ONLY One Neutral/Ground Bond Point.... Where things get sticky, is when LONG Wires, (and I mean Multiple Tens/Hundreds of MILES, LONG) have an Interplay with the Electromagnetic Fields, generated by the CME Particles interacting with the Earths Magnetic Field. (Aurora at Ground Level) That takes an Extraordinary Intensive Aurora, to push those Fields down to Ground Level. Anything less that 1000Ft hanging in the Air, or ANYTHING Buried, isn't going to do squat....

The article says we would have 12 hours warning or maybe more but would we really? Unless you watch space weather and are on alternative sites, the MSM doesn't give you a heads up until it is almost here. I can see officials keeping this news quiet in order to avoid panic. Some people would and this could cause chaos.

Here is an article that expanded on the article @Yard Dart linked. They went on to say-
I found it interesting that they said GPS would be knocked out causing shipping and trains to be unable to operate. The article seemed to be trying to convince people that if it happened it would only last for three days. I do question their statement that both mobile and landline phones most likely wouldn't be affected.

** just in case, I have decided to put away some marshmallows.

Why does a train need GPS? Wut other options are there on a track?

I questioned that also. And ships should have a navigation map also but maybe they have totally go paperless. I was at a hospital the other week and their computers went down- they couldn't tell you anything because nothing is written and on paper anymore.

A paperless society can be in ruin when/if we had a massive event. Trains are tracked by GPS from the NOC in Chicago if I recall correct. Kill the GPS and comms and rail, shipping and air travel are dead...as well as stupid lost drivers ;)

They would make it 12 hours because the elites would need time to get to the underground cities before alerting the bottom feeders.

Reality is, if you are here on the Monkey......the fire alarm will get rang as quick as we see the alerts.....
If you watch the MSM only, you will find out about the same time as everyone else and be trapped in the log jam of people freaking out. They will be trying to run away....to where, who knows.......

Trains use onboard GPS for tracking and traffic control on the tracks.. Over the road trucks use GPS for tracking as well...
