Planning a BO Practical: BOB list suggestions?

    Howdy y'all.
I am planning on doing a Bug Out Practical drill in the next couple of weeks, and I am wanting to mix it up a little bit. I have a normal list of things that I use, but I am wanting to do a little bit more skill building, and a little less of putting more dirt time on my normal kit (essentially broadening my horizons).
I am wanting to do at least a one and a half day drill, and at least do some fishing and make some stuff, perhaps including something to fish on the water in. I am trying to avoid my normal living history/bushcraft kit hacks, and take in a full "modern" kit. I am also planning some video segments and some article fodder for my blog.

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions? I know this is often beaten to death in the "help me design my BOB threads, but I figured I would give this a try anyhow.

I am currently planning an bringing my official "Tactical" Beater SKS and a loadout of ammo for it. The rest of it is fairly up in the air. If I don't get much feedback I'm just going to scavenge "survival kit" or loadout suggestions from my library. I plan on only taking one or two meals to keep the pressure up.

I reckon that will about cover it...I have a decent array of supplies to choose from, so I can probably scrounge up something similar if not just that exact thing.

About half way thru the exercise, forget you have two hands.

If you truly want to keep the pressure up..... forget your one or two meals.... get out there and forage local berries and such, fish and trap/snare your meal. Then cook them up and make a tasty meal. Worst case, you are hungry for 1 1/2 days.... easy peasy. ;)

Practice a few skills that rely on very little packed in. Snares both for fish and small game.
    Eat what you catch.

I like this question, and I designated a tag just for it, called "bug out drill".

It's important to break your kit in and use it. It is also important to test some of it to see if it will hold up when you actually need it --although some of us have saved you the time by posting gear reviews. I highly encourage any member here to post their own findings on any kit they have used in our gear review section. Take pictures, or use stock photos if you can't take them yourself.

@AxesAreBetter if you find the time, feel free to come back to this thread and post your findings. Also, others may chime in with their own. I believe testing equipment as well as hiking/survival theories and principles to be highly important. Perhaps the two most important I can think of off hand would be FOOTWEAR and the BACKPACK itself. Each will require special fitting, and each can cripple you if you're not careful.

The only suggestion I have at this time, is for you to get out there and see if you can function without restraints. See how well you can perform in any condition which may arise. Also, take note on which pieces of kit you never end up using. Think about it, make any adjustments necessary, and streamline your loadout.

    1.5 days?
    Try a "poison" scenario...
See if u can put back a 40 or 60 oz bottle of JD while on safari.

As a test, at least for the first several hours, see how well you know your bag -- you must use what you find on the first try.

For example, if you open a compartment in your bag that you think has medical supplies, but your wrong and all you see if your extra knife and duct tape -- then use it. [OK, don't do anything completely crazy, like trying the remove a splinter with your knife and end up cutting your finger.]
But this would be a good test to see if you know where everything is. Makes you stop and think -- and if you're wrong then do without that item for several hours.

I like the "first try" idea. As for the JD, I'd die out there. I'm probably going to have to boil up a gallon+ of water, and adding alcohol on top of that would just be a pain...

One of the reasons I was asking for advice is that I have a streamlined and tested kit, but it is mostly living history kit, and I am trying to avoid that. It is a kit that has YEARS of dirty time, so I am not worried about it. It is putting together a fully "modern" kit that I am unsure how to pull off, if that makes any sense.
I guess I can ask something more specific...

Do y'all think I should bring a hunting tool with me? More specifically, a weapon or tool just for hunting with, such as a .22LR, a slingshot (which I hate), spearheads, etc? I have gathered that a full fishing kit and something to trap with is on everyones list...Haha.

Anybody have any tricks for catching/shooting carp?

Nice. Should I use fishing line or bank line when hand casting?

If you hate the slingshot, by all means bring it. Use it, get more comfortable with it, and cease to hate it.

Actually, I hunt with a slingshot, now. When working into position for a deer drive, I will pop a squirrel or rabbit that decides to show up, without spooking any deer.

I would only hand cast, if I was setting a snare like the one above. For any real fishing, I'd cut a pole from local branches.

Not sure I will ever cease to hate them. Haha. What should I use for ammo? We do not have an over abundance of rock down here.

Also, could you translate deer drive?

No problem. A deer drive, is where several hunters work together. All but one or two will sit at likely exit areas from the place you are hunting. Then, the one or two left will slowly walk back and forth winding through the hunting area, working slowly and the deer will decide they should move on to other places. When they do, they will most likely exit the area by one of the placed hunters. Moving deer are much easier to see, same as moving hunters. If the hunters have guessed correct, the deer will come to them. This is known as a "deer drive" similar to a cattle drive. Done correct, the deer are just walking, calm, and in no real hurry. Done wrong, they will be bounding like pogo sticks, running for their lives, and by any means possible. And in doing so, tainting the meat with adrenaline, which is not as tasty as venison from a calm deer.
As for ammo, rocks work fine, but I use 5/16" hex nuts (a byproduct of work, and scrap). They are plenty deadly for small game. I use a folding wrist rocket with tubular bands. (Magnet removed)

Yep, we used slingshots then too, and hex nuts.
