We went out by our Herb pots just outside our yard gate and there was a big hole. It had apparently run into tree roots and moved over to another area. We put a smoke bomb in the hole and Larry held a shotgun and nothing came out. Any help would be great.
Is it molesting your plants?? If not, why bother it... We all have critters scurrying about, but if they are causing no harm leave them be... However, if they are competing for your food... Well, kill em dead!!!
!!! I see that a lot at my house, mice will dig burrows like that.Usually disturbing them will send them out to find another spot! Try rat poison pellets, I've been using them and now I have dead mice and field rats laying dead all over the property! If it's a half moon shaped hole it could be an Armadillo. I had a mole get in my grow bed, but he didn't hurt my plants, just looking for grubs, I saw no need to intervene.
I can't tell by the pics, but I used a homemade pepper spray last year in my garden and it worked well keeping bugs and animals away. How to Get Rid of Animal Pests With Hot Pepper Spray: 8 Steps
Im not clear? are they eating your plants? if not I wouldn't worry about them. looks like mice or voles
Hello everyone. Thank you for all of the replies. The critter is not eating plants. Thanks for that. Yes, that is spearmint. Thank you, Gopherman. Thank you, Gopherman. I will try that. A few months ago, Larrys' truck would not start. We found out something had been up under the hood and got in the electrical box and chewed it up. The guy said it was a rat. So, we have traps out to catch them and have not had anymore trouble. I have not caught any in the traps either. Seems if I leave the porch light on they are less active. Guess they are looking for a place to winter. Thank you for the ideas.
Thanks Rocky Rod Lerp, we planted some ghost pepper for this. Thank you for the link. I printed the link!!! Thank you so much. This looks simple. Thank you, Ganado, They are not eating the plants..lol Thank goodness. I should have said that when I posted. Thank you!!
I made some out of Habenero's I grew. I ground about 20 up into a paste and soaked them in Rubbing Alcohol for a week. I strained it through a coffee filter and let it settle. Problem is I'm afraid to open it!
I tried to bribe my son into rubbing a little on his cheeks, I wasn't willing to go any higher than $20, he wouldn't do it. I'm too much of a Wiener to try it myself. I was making it for pepper spray and I need to know if it works but no takers at that price so far!
It'll work just on scent alone. I have to pick mine with latex gloves just for that reason. My problem is I like to eat them, so I ran out of spray pretty quick. Did you figure out what the critter is yet Pearlselby?
Well, Rocky Road Lerp, from the replies I got, I think it must be a rat. I did not realize they could dig holes like that. We still have not caught it. We have a live trap and several rat traps. It did not surface last night. (as far as I know). There was no new digging last night. So, I guess, a wait and see type deal. Thank you for asking.
