Guys, who can recommend any good lantern?
The one I use now is gas lantern, but I think it is not the safest item to keep inside the tent.
what can you say about your lanterns?

For inside the tent, I really like the Fenix CL25. I run mine every night by the stairs. It is on about 12-15 hours per day and I recharge the 18650 battery maybe once a month even though it hasn't run out yet.

Crazy run time on low at 600 hours. And very bright on high at 350 lumens.

I am pretty sure I posted a review of it on here. And there is a link below to the fenix-store. I am not affiliated except as a satisfied customer. If you do buy, feel free to use the discount code they gave me... APP10 for 10% off.

My monkeys used it as part of their Halloween props since is also has a red light option. Some folks like having that for retaining night vision. Also practical to have a useful light in the tent when everyone else is sleeping.

I use a Thrunite T10v2 flashlight, it runs on a single AA rechargeable battery that I can plug into my compact solar setup. It has a removable dome just for tent use, and it's plenty bright for my needs. It's a small light --measuring about 3 1/2" in length, not including the dome wand.

    t10. t10b.

But, for home use...a good, old fashioned oil lantern is tough to beat if there's enough fuel stored up. Safety while using is always important, and I also would not use one in a tent or any other confined space.

I take a battery pack with me along with a USB multi battery charger. Top off the battery pack with solar, but for anything less than a week to ten days, no need. The Anker battery that will recharge my phone and flashlight, headlamp & lantern batteries for that time frame on a single charge. But the solar tops off the battery during the day, and the battery charges the stuff while sleeping.

Truth be told, I have not had to recharge batteries when camping. Just my phone.

Looks like a little bad-@$$ you got there! Haha.

Been thinking on this subject some myself. Any body have a good kerosene style lantern manufacturer? I can take them on my historical outings, but I can't get a "hurricane lantern" to cast more light than a candle lantern, and not for longer than one refill...

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

I lean toward candle lanterns myself. I designed one for tenting/camping/hiking that has no fire hazard, gives a lot of light for a small amount of wax, and never soots up. It's nowhere near as bright a Coleman lantern, but it's good enough to read or sew by. Puts out a lot less waste heat, too.

    thanks everyone for the answers!

I do not understand about brightness level of LED lanterns and number of lumens. What does it mean? Is your lantern with 350 lumens very bright? I just worry that it will be too bright.

The lowest setting seems about the brightness of a candle, I would guess. The highest setting will light up a room pretty well. In my review, the picture under the tree is on high.

You talking about the little monkey? hehehe

When she was six, I started teaching her and would let her hit me, so I could work on her form. By the time she was seven or eight, she could hit me hard enough to almost move me and my 200 pound carcass off my feet. Now, she could probably hurt me.

The Fenix lantern with an Eneloop AA for scale. I have to say, it is my new favorite lantern.

[IMG] just to give you an idea about what lumins means, it is the level of light output from a given bulb. Lights are nolonger given in watts, due to more efficient bulbs which use less power to produce more light and less heat. (That is all "efficiency" really means.) The equivalent power usage of a 100wt incandescent bulbs is 26wt florescent. (Do not use a bigger bulb than a socket and wires are rated for.) So a 60wt florescent would overload a 100wt socket designed for incandescent. (We run into this often at work, and it burns logic boards, and can start fires).
Lumins is just the measurement of output light.

@robinson_1982, maybe this will give you an idea of the brightness.

On top of the fridge. On low, then high. Sorry about the artifact in the picture. Probably a reflection that my phone made.

And stuck to the side of the fridge. The base is magnetic. Low then high.

So to me, the low setting is really useful. Seems like about the brightness of a candle. Not super bright, but you could read by it if you are close enough. And high is really bright. Per @kellory's post, close to a 40W incandescent bulb.

It's been about a month, so I am charging the battery. I know it is starting to run low because the high setting will not stay sustained and it drops to the next highest setting. It's been on low every night and periodically on higher settings.

So if you need to see more, like a wider field of view, let me know. And maybe I can take some more shots tonight.
