A bandana is something everyone should have. Actually the more the better. I have them in my BOB, I have a few in my first aid bag plus in various other areas. I have both small and large because when using as a sling, the larger ones worked better.

    30 Uses for a Bandana

Bandannas are such a great tool to always have that some even come with info printed on them. You can purchase them with first aid instructions, knot tying, and survival tips.

What have you used them for?

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Three bandannas hung in succession from a tripod of sticks and filled in turn with fine grass, fine sand, and crushed charcoal make a great water filter. It gets the muck and the yuck out, but boiling is a good idea once the water comes out clear. Next best thing to distillation.

True. All a square piece of cloth. I once used the word shemagh and one of my redneck friends asked, what the h***is a shemagh." I have never seen bandannas at the dollar store. I will have to look.

Don;t forget taking hot crap off the first.

I like the original ca. 30" bandanas. Wear them regularly as head scarves, and use them for dozen of other uses. I try to carry one in silk and one in cotton to make best advantage of there qualities by situation.

Water filter of another kind. Tie them into a rope, and hang it over the side of the dirty water bucket, into another bucket. It should wick through all the cloth, and be a whole lot cleaner in the second bucket. Downside is it is very slow, so you may need quite a few "ropes" to dripping.

One question I have- I was told to soak a bandana in colloidal silver and it can be used as a bandage. I keep thinking once soaked and dried, it would be best to store the treated bandana in a baggie so it stays effective. Would it make a difference?

@Motomom34 You better keep that in a BLACK Baggie, or the Colloidal Silver will tarnish, via UV Sunlight.....
