#Snowmaggedon2016: Empty Store Shelves As Panicked Shoppers Ransack Grocery Stores

 

Appears the only thing they left was the condoms - looks like a bumper crop next September...

Look at that bottom right corner picture. Animals! That shows a frenzy in the snack center. Food on the floor and just wiped out. This to me is amazing but scary. This is just a snow storm, I cannot imagine the images if something worse happened. And why does everyone rush out to buy milk? If you don't have it in your fridge chances are you don't drink it.

 

They left cheese? Weirdos...when we do our monthly shopping, it's just that, (at least) a month's worth of supplies, so it doesn't matter what happens in that month, we're covered. We don't need to stock up just before a storm.

 

My friend Angery American of Going Home Fame and Walt Browing wrote a short story(soon to be a full kength book series) called Chariles Reqrium its about just this type of thing in the city near the "Mouse House" in Florida when a EMP hits.

Yeah a "survivalist" idiot I know was going to get hit with a storm and finally went to "stock up". I talked to him later and he was crying and whining like a lib-tard after getting mugged outside an anti-gun rally and just carried on and on and on about how the store was stripped of all food, batteries (what he said was the "only" thing he was after), and everything else and he bought what little was left. When I asked why he bothered to go, according to him, every OTHER time I talked to him, he claimed he could last years on what he had stored, he admitted he DIDN'T have any batteries or food! I started laughing and he changed that to "well he DID, but it was 'survival' supplies and he couldn't use THAT, plus it was all packed away...." on and on and on. Of course he is a giant blow hard and makes Walter Mitty look like someone with no imagination when it comes to self-aggrandizing and BS. A "Super-Survivalist" in his own mind, just no food or supplies.

 

It would be interesting just to go and see the panic and take a few pics. Morbid curiosity really.

 

I really get a kick out of the folks around here when a snow is predicted. "Bread,Milk and Eggs". It ain't no lie, there won't be any of those items left when it calls for snow. Sass and I joke about it, but she will still stop in and grab some if she's out that day. It is completely ingrained into the southern DNA to do this

 

Yeah I can't figure out the bread milk and eggs thing. What are they all planning on making, French toast?

Reminds me of Christmas eve, when the wife asked for shrimp at the last Moment. There were hundreds of people in line, and every register open. It was a mad house.

 

Maybe I'm just dense, but why do these folks go through this panic and insanity for a blizzard? It's a blizzard for goodness sake, sometimes they happen in the Winter. I understand it's a different mindset but it still just dumbfounds me.

 

They'll be eating each other in a few days.

 

With apologies to James Fenimore Cooper, perhaps the story could be titled, "The Last of the Panic Strickens" A desperate tale of an über survivalist in search of the last pack of AA batteries in town.

 

Just think of people you know that go to the grocery store every 2-3 days.

our easy access to food means we don't need to store it. If you think that having a slim 3 day supply of food is bad. Do any of you have relations in western Europe (france, spain, Germany, Italy)? Ask them how often they go to the store for groceries. You'd be surprised that they go every day.

Yep, us preppers might be eating hardtack months in, but we still won't need to go to the store long after the trucks stop running.

 

On a cooking show, they mention going to the market every day in Italy. I thought how much I would hate that. But, I do believe people used to do that. They wanted fresh everyday.
