Where are you most likely to be in a survival situation?

Where are you most likely to find yourself in a do or die situation? For some of us, it could be in our homes during a natural or man-made disaster or home invasion or fire, some might get stranded in a wilderness area with a broken vehicle, some might get lost wondering around the woods, and others might be abducted by aleins and dropped into the middle of no-where. The two most likely scenerios for myself would be survival at sea or survival in a jungle, as that is where I mostly make my living; it is these two areas that I am most prepared to deal with, well, that and alien abduction. You may think I am kidding here, but many of the places where I work, kidnapping for ransom is a big ticket item and avoiding the pit-falls there has to be taken into account.

    Most likely.....Hmmmm.

I'm in a VERY low-crime area, so while it's always possible, it's unlikely that it would be due to criminal activity.

I don't go to "remote" areas farther than family owned woods.

I guess the most likely situation for me would then be societal breakdown caused by whatever. Other than that, I've pretty well insulated/protected myself from just about all the other bad stuff.

For me, no matter the situation, it's a 90% probability I'll be within 50 miles of home. Other than road trips, few and far between, I am at work, at home, or pretty local. On the road, I am prepared for just about anything that can happen up to and including stranding by a sick vehicle in any weather conditions. At home, getting outa Dodge is a matter of heaving one bag in the pickup, hooking up the trailer and hitting the road. When/if the pickup runs out of grunt, the trailer has a road bike in it that will get me another 200 miles. After that, I'm SOL these days. But there are more things getting done toward extending the time before SOL hits. That said, bugging in is the main plan until staying put becomes untenable. This particular neck of the woods, while crowded, is pretty peaceful and off the beaten path. Not far off, but off enough for a while. Two years from now, there will be an entirely differerent set of circumstances and I'm running pretty lean until then. Yep, taking a chance, but weighing the odds, I think I'm on solid ground.[dunno]

I am in a town filled with loonies, crackheads and liberals. I live in the midst of the 'financial' area, ie down the street from Macy's and other high end stores. I can see rioting and looting happening around here though it will not be 'my' target to stick around this location. I aim for greener pastures to gather any needed supplies and then it's up in the air as far as destination. At this current time I am way away from any of my family. Lone wolf in strange land.

Then again depending on time of a breakdown of the world, I may be deployed on foreign soil which also brings up a scenario that I have not seen mention of.

What is an US Soldier to do if the SHTF while he is deployed to some foreign land? This is something that I have to think on as well as many others. Will Uncle Sam bring us back? Can he? Would he want to? Something to think of at least.

Quiet university town in So Cal now, in 6 months from now moving to work in a little city that is 27 miles long and has [SIZE=-1]13,393[/SIZE] residents. in So Cal. Do not know if will live right there as it is probably the most expensive proposition in So Cal, possibly live something half an hour away. From the crime statistics I see it is pretty safe. safer at work than at home, safer 5 times at home than national average. Either bug in at home or at parents house that is not terribly far away. Do not foresee need to bug out of the parents house for sure. there are maybe 5 main arteries of entry to those hills down there. Need to get another dirt bike and would be in a really good situation

Since I seldom travel any great distance, I'll likely be within ten miles of home. Probably have my DualSport Motorcycle, with at least five or six major routes home from within town - so stalled traffic is no problem. One of my routes is mostly off-road/rural.
If the bike or car is knocked out (EMP?) then it's shank's mare with the survival gear I keep in each vehicle. Figure a good day to get home in that case.
Home is in the 'burbs - social unrest will likely occur in town first, before spreading out to us. Should give me time to 'lock&load'!

We live in a pretty rural area and we are homebodies so I would say either at home or at work.

[flag]Quiet midwest 'burbs, out side "mid sized" town of 38,000...I currently am home for as long as we are keeping our heads above water..(No more dragging a toolbox around a hot noisy factory for me)..Most of Her family is in the local area., mine on the eastcoast. See no reason to contemplate an epic journey back east( they should be able to fend for each other). That' a surefire way to get smoked, though it makes a great adventure paperback...

I am slowly shoring up our supplies/ backup systems...learning to get and preserve food outta' the dirt... the growing season is pretty short up here (Wi) so cold frames or greenhouse may come along as time goes by.almost everyone hunts or has hunted up here. firearms are prolific. Don't forsee too many problems with civil unrest.

300 miles north of chicago,We shouldn't see any fall out unless the dakotas get hit hard then prevailing winds show us down range after a few days...

Biggest threats here are lack of heat and winter food supply. I chose to buy the enfield rifle when I technically shoud've spent the $200 on a kerosene backup heater and fuel...Infact we got 9" of heavy wet snow last night so far power has only flickered a couple of times, but is holding.and plows are out going to town...
I backpack and ride motorcycle solo. My biggest risk is getting hurt bad deep in the woods, but I'd have a couple of days of supplies in the pack, and always file a flight plan before I leave...So I'd be fine...

I would most likely be home or at work if it was a SHTF thing since that accounts for better than 95% ofmy time and am within 20 miles of home (a hard days hike) well over 99.9% of the time.

Since I am in a rural area where in the 5 years or so we have lived here I have only known of about 3 homicides within 30 miles or more of us, violent crime and crime in general is pretty scarce, so home invasions and such while very unlikely COULD happen. The most likely would probably be breaking down on the back roads in bad weather or something similarly mundane.

Live about 50 miles from Boston in a rural area that has turned into a bedroom community and while there are a lot of survival type people hewr, we would likely be overwhelmed by the city. Am mostly self sufficient if need be. Have water in well with hand pump, septic system, wood for a couple years heat and cooking, and food for a year or so. Bigest threat if the government or the hoard deciding that I need to "share" and then we will all be dead in 90 days. Have solar set up for long term power and access to 2 dams, one 10 feet of head and one 30 feet of head. Really need to be working on hydro. See biggest threat to US in the ability to sell our debt to the reat of the world and thus the collapse of the dollar. No spare parts or replacement for all of that chineese goods and foreign oil. I figure good old fashined greed is more likely to do us in that Islamafaschists. Old man Hitler killed 5 or so million germans, 20 or so million russians and I don't even guess at how many other people and all we hear about is the group with the best spokesmen. I hope that we don't lose it in the name of terrorism like the germans did in the name of anticommunisim under Hitler. He was elected you know and took tempory powers due to the "crisis" that germany faced.

Rivers, I'm pretty good on but even having done considerable mountaineering in my younger days, don't feel as comfortable there as I would like, especially in snow. My company does a cold-weather survival thing each winter in Minnesota, but we always have the best gear available; it ain't like running off the road down a snow-covered gorge on the way back from grandmas with just a pair of loafers and a tweed jacket, maybe a left-over pie and a wife with a broke leg. The interesting thing about survival is that it will raise it's ugly head at the whim of Murphy, when it can catch you at the worst possible moment in time with the crappiest conditions. When something breaks, it is usually the one thing that can do the most damage and at the worst possible moment.

I live in the woods (northern wisc.) almost no crime, and low population. Worst thing for me is weather, although I am close to our local electrical sub station and the power lines are underground from the sub station to my house, the power is never out here. We had a tornado once less than 2 miles from the house, power went out for about 2 minutes.
when the shtf I'm planning on not moving anywhere, I have enough food in the house to feed my family for some time, good water supply, and enough weapons to defend us for as long as I need to. Plus living here in the woods I have enough food outside in the backyard I can live on that for a long time.
Lake is less than 2 blocks from here as well

Not more than a day or two, usually at home, in the boonies. Have a good community of "like minded" people around. Gee, they listened to me some. We will probably hunker down, no need for power, have only a little solar and a genny. Hand pump well, garden, root celler an' a heeap a ammo, weapons, and skill. We practice. The mules and horse will provide us with another 'out' if needed. The mtns are REAL close. Am I fit enough, prepared enough to get home from even 10Xs as far. Yeppers. Right now I am 900 or 1200 miles from 'home' ( just visiting now) but we can still get home, I have caches all over, I have people all over. Gonna write somtin' on it soon snowbyrd[tinfoil101]

I will most likely be at work. Unfortunately, I work in Memphis which seems to be one of the most dangerous cities in the country on an ordinary day. As I live in Arkansas, my biggest problem could be damage to both of the two bridges that cross the Mississippi River. Once I am home, I feel I am in pretty good shape for up to several months.

If the bridges are in tact, I will only have to avoid the local citizens in order to get home. My next concern is that my rural haven could be overcome by the flocks of people that will be fleeing the city as I am only about 30 miles from downtown.
