OK here goes everyone here at SM should in one degree or another be somewhat prepared for shtf
In my case I was raised in mostly off grid lifestyle I grow lots of my own food and greens are the easiest to grow.we also have a building we built ourselves and has a wood cook stove in it for when the power goes off.I have over 900 candles stored and 30 gals. of kero for oil lamps just fore light.I vacuum pack dry goods and store in 5 gal. buckets.know hunting and trapping, canning meat and even tanning the hides.son and myself know reloading and have enough on hand and both have multi arms.3 4x4 trucks(dodges of course) and extra stabled gas.4 gen sets.I make knives as a hobby that are razor sharp and can be used for trade in a shtf time.we both cast our own bullets.I make my own wood arrows like the old Cherokee arrows with only 2 vanes and they fly true.still to many things we do here to list and what I'm saying what are the other SW squirrels doing to be prepared.you should all be or start to be prepared for very bad times that are just around the corner thank you for your time --stay safe SW

Not sure when, but I do feel it will happen sooner as opposed to later. Keep your head down and your powder dry.......

Every October and every April/ early May I hear doom chants. Seems to be the change of the seasons or something. Majority of terror attracts happen in the spring and financial collapses seem to become realizations in the Fall. Do not know why but it does.

@marlas1too glad I am not the only one that has gone wild with storing candles. I never realized how many I had until I started organizing and found two more boxes (big ones) that I had forgotten about.

@marlas1too There are many folks here on this site always looking for another good knife. You might want to consider taking some pictures of your work product and put a price on some to see how it goes. I think you could probably make some sales here at monkey for sure. Additionally you spoke of having a ton of old used some working wringer washers. Any chance you might take some pics there also and maybe sell one or 3. I always could use a summer or fall road trip. ;)

I feel the survivors will be those who can remain concealed and mobile. Better learn to be that person. Small groups, hunter gatherer, mobile shelter and stay remote. The more remote and rugged the refuge, the better.

tacmotusn I live in the pan handle of wv. that would be some road trip--will try to get some pics of my knifes and sheaths and I might want to sell 3 of my washers

mobile ain't an option, but I will lay out a slew of stiff bodies before they crawl over the piles of brass to get at me.

I have some kin and friends along and up that way. Might be a fun trip most anytime except winter. I am interested in the washers and knives.

I find it very intriguing how well Cherokee arrows work. I've been replacing all of my 3 fletch with them.

well I live at the base of the mountains I have stored and stashed supplys along the way on all my escape routes my family knows all the stash spots and routes I am an expert at primitive living so that part is not an issue I always keep a bugout bag in all cars and map compass is something that I taught my family how to use a map and compass because I never rely on gps cu what if you break it loose it or batteries die we have planned meeting points and a few alternate places to bug to in the mountains the best thing you can have is a well honed plan and skill set and I am prepared to go mid-evil at any time the mind is the best weapon and best tool one can have to survive

Could start in October, or after the first of the year, ether way, I am ready. The home is equipped for about two years of every thing, I just had fuel delivered for the winter, all rigs are tuned and serviced, and have a lot of powder made and stored. Just got 600 pounds of lead for casting, and couldn't be much happier! Just started building new carbon arrows for the Martain and it turna out the Golden Apple will shoot the same arrows, so no need to try making multiple things work! I also came up with a Bi Delta Fletch that made my arrows a bit faster and have less wobble in flight!

I would place a stash at the base of the mountains, but I'd have to drive three hours to get to said mountains. The meager coastal range is too easily searched, but that is where I will bug out if need be. I plan to carry what I need and go in by 4X4. I have scouted three defensible sites, none of which have been improved or cleared in any way. I have anti intrusion plans for the primary perimeter, secondary determent devices and when they get to the encampment, I will hopefully have moved on.

@chimo "...but my little voice is nagging me about an October surprise this year."
Does your little voice say why October? Just curious... I am thinking early next Spring as it would take her that long to get all her people into position say, 1 April. April Fool's Day!

@Motomom34 and @marlas1too - so what are good candles? I have a couple of those 'Emergency Essentials 115+ candles' but I have never tried them...yet (will do so this weekend). They cost a couple bucks and I will pick up some more now that you both reminded me. But, maybe you know a better candle?

As far as survival prepping... I am new at this game as just returned stateside so everyone has a head start on me but I am catching up fast. I have 5 wooded acres in Northern Idaho, I got at least 15 cords of wood already cut...but no wood stove. LOL!!!! We're working on it but not sure it's doable. One road in and one road out no major towns near. Two 4x4 vehicles, both new and was service just yesterday. We have a huge garden and wife is a canning nutcase. I have stocked up on dried food, freeze-dried and we easily got enough for 4-6 months just with the dried depending how we eat. We also have a lot canned and 3 freezers which are full (two freezers are new). Water is good with a 1500 gallon cistern. Plus got a huge lake very close. Lots and lots of ammo for 5.56 and 9mm. Two ARs in 5.56, 4 pistols in 9mm, .22 rifle and pistol with a full ammo box. Medical supplies - we're good, real good... to include vitamins, antibiotics, medical books...I do need suture kits. Lots and lots of batteries, D, AA, & AAA. Lots of flashlights and Lanterns - all LEDs. I have a 250 gallon propane tank that provides fireplace and my cook stove. We do need generator (gas/propane) and some treated gasoline (would like a 55 gallon drum but...probably not now), I've probably purchase a couple of 40 gallon propane bottles also to use with generator and/or propane heater (buying propane heater this winter)...and I need a new pair of boots! I think we are good for at least 6 months.
EDIT: I forgot Comms! I also have 2 ea. vhf/uhf UV-5R Baofeng radios with Nagoya 771R antennas.

Candles are very nice. We carry some candle lanterns in our shop for reenactors, and I like them. Definitely prefer having a lantern to having just a freestanding candle.

For candles, you cant beat the Swedish candle lamps! They make several different versions, but the two best are the tall reflector wall mount/ hand held with finger loop and the Swiss emergency lamp! Both are super nice and efficient, just a bit tricky to get here in the states! Also, the Swiss make a super efficient wood stove set up as do the Newfoundlanders! Check them out!
