What Single Item has the Most Uses?

This isn't a top ten or this would be the one thing I would take if I could only take one thread.

Instead, I always like to keep things in my bag that have many uses. I like as many options as possible without taking everything and the kitchen sink with me - ounces make pounds and such.

Now a knife is insanely useful and and absolute (in my mind) but it's "uses" are mostly restricted to cutting, so single use in my mind (maybe you could add as a fero striker if it's high carbon).



I'm thinking a good neckerchief or bandana has 'many' uses.

Head cover.
Dust mask.
Water filter.
Tourniquet.
Flag.
TP.... In a pinch, ew.
Lashing or securing items.
Fire tinder or char cloth.
Bandage for cuts.
Etc.

And I know there are many other uses - I have seen large lists before but those were just a handful I could think of fast.

What are some of your best Multi-Use items and why?

 

Flat Blade Screw Driver about 6'' long shaft.

 

This goes with me everywhere, for obvious reasons!

Wool Blanket if knife is out. Bandana perks, plus warmth, shelter, and clothing.

I second the bandana. My daily carry regardless of where on the planet I have been for the past 55+ years has been a pocket knife & bandana. Weighted down with 120 lbs. of gear or butt naked with the bandana serving as a bag to carry my pocket knife, they are both with me at all times. I once saw a broken tie rod on a car patched with a bandana well enough to get it out of the woods a couple of miles back to a road and garage. Also a bandana makes a dandy sap with a nice weight in it, like a medium sized rock or multi-tool - KAPOP!! Too many uses to even begin to list.

My Mora knife. Small and very useful. Cut things, whittle, make cordage, stab things. I think it make reflect.
