Jaw dropping - so simple it's clever. Main tools are short levers, pebbles, and sticks of wood.

When I think of all of Man's knowledge that has been lost over the centuries due to wars and conflict, it makes me wonder how we got this far...

Yup...That is conflict. Look at what ISIS is doing as they take and hold territory in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan...

These walls of stone are cut and stacked in ways that boggle the mind, fitting together so precisely that even today the seams are so tight that a piece of paper or a razor blade can’t fit between. All stacked without any mortar, held in place through sheer engineering. The stones can weight up to 360 tons, yet were carried from over 22 miles away using… we don’t know

Nobody has started on any working engineering type solution - other than "Aliens did it".

The Great Wall of...wait for it - India.
This is the ancient fort of Kumbhalgarh. The Kumbhalgarh Fort is located in Rajastan in western India.

Now, I'm feeling really smart right now, knowing these folks built all of this (and prior pages) with no cranes, power equipment or computers....

I don't think that religious motivated book burning is simply just a matter of "conflict".....There is a long tradition of religious motivated book burning, in times of peace also. Playing with Fire: On Christian Book Burning | The Smirking Chimp Ancient Books, Scrolls And Manuscripts Burned By Church And Evil Emperors | MessageToEagle.com

Furthermore, book burning and banning are not confined to sectarian incendiarists.....secular book burners have also contributed to the sum total of works of art and literature lost to humanity. Comstock's 30 + Years of Book Burning to WW1.Lost Fine Literature and Ruined Authors. Anthony Comstock Was Govt. Anti Liberty Religeous Crusader and USPS Postal Inspector.

There are many examples of spherical concretions like the one found in Bosnia (below) from around the world. The Moeraki Boulders of New Zealand are an example of “cannonball concretions”. These famous, very spherical boulders are found on a beach in Otago (Above, I believe) . They are part of a Paleocene-aged rock formation, so they date back 60 million years and likely took millions of years to grow to their most massive sizes of up to 7 feet wide. Other examples of almost impossibly round cannonball concretions occur in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, and these ones are also quite reddish and iron-stained due to their mineral composition.

    As for Costa Rica
“We think the main technique that was used was pecking and grinding and hammering with stones,” said Hoopes. “There are some spheres that have been found that still have the marks of the blows on them from hammer stones. We think that that’s how they were formed, by hammering on big rocks and sculpting them into a spherical shape.”

The Who and Why are still a blank page waiting to be filled in.

Sichuan province, China - carved from a rock face. 1300 years old

Czech cook-turned-sculptor Vaclav Levy made these during his free time in the 1840s. Creepy, huh?

A little more modern. The Buddha statue situated at the center of an artificial lake in the city of Hyderabad is one of India’s most famous Buddha statues. This figure stands at a full 17 meters (56 feet) tall and weighs 320 tons. The single largest monolithic statue in all of India, it was sculpted by a group of artisans from a single piece of stone.

Humans have busy for a very long time.

I think we also lost a lot of knowledge due to advances in technology and other factors. My grandparents on both sides were subsistence farmers. My parents knew how to farm, but lived in the suburbs. We had a substantial garden and canned. None of my siblings raise gardens and their children no longer have any of the knowledge their previous generations had, and would be SOL if they needed to grow their own food let alone raise animals.

There'll always be someone to keep the torch of knowledge burning, and when all else fails...there'll be archaeologists and forensic historians to piece together how things were done back in the day....And perhaps, when all else fails....book people...

That's why I go out of my way to support so-called Living History places - farms, blacksmiths, even entire villages like Historic Williaimsburg. These could well be the salvation of humanity - like the Mote in God's Eye (Larry Niven) story set.
