So, I have a closet full of weapons and need a proper place to put them; I am also a cheap bastard and this is my "for now" solution. Found this relatively unused metal junction box/control panel at work. A little bruised and scuffed from being thrown in a scrap pile; but nothing some TLC and Rustoleum
wont cure! Paid the scrap price to bring it home. 150lbs at 10cents a pound= $15.00 OTD.

60"Hx36"Wx20"D, all steel with a padlock-able front handle. Yes there are a few "holes" to address, more to follow on that. Yes it will be cleaned and painted and I will have to figure out how I want to configure the inside. Pics will slowly follow as the project gets underway and progresses. I have already cut and ground down where the "dog-ear" hangers were top and bottom for wall mounting so it now sits flush on the floor and/or against a wall.

Here it is in raw form prior to monkey mods!!

Let me know what you think as any and all input is welcome................
cabinet front. cabinet open. cabinet side.

Sorry; forgot to add that my budget for this project is a max of $100.00.............That means I have $85 left to get it mission complete.

****Keep in mind this is a cabinet, not a SAFE****

Put wood feet on it. No matter where it sits, the wood will serve to protect the floor and bottom of the cabinet, and leave you space to lead in power for the goldenrods and lighting. (Unless, of course, you plan on beefing up a wall to hang it on.)

The cabinet is going to sit on a rug on a ceramic tiled floor. really not looking to add feet I don't think its necessary? Dehumidifying will be via rechargeable desiccants or socks full of rice or something of the like. Lighting will be via LED strips that are battery powered. There is no way in hell I am trying to hang this behemoth on a wall!!

I once converted a similar electrical box that was all galvanized which I got for free to house my longarms in a semi-secure fashion against kids and local two-bit house prowlers. I plugged most the holes with bolts and washers, with the threaded ends of the bolts pounded down in rivet fashion on the inside along with some JB Weld to help hold the washers in place, and don't remember what I did about the big holes. I had access to a lot of hardware then, but no welder.

I suffered a couple of break-ins and never lost any firearms, but I had my box well camouflaged and bolted to the concrete floor and 2 walls in a corner of the garage, and also kept a couple hundred pounds of ammo as low in the box as I could. I used desiccant bags I swapped out about monthly. I had 2 hasps bolted in at about 1/3rd of the way from the bottom and top and used those round looking padlocks that leave little of the lock's hasp exposed to bolt cutters. Had the guns chained through the trigger guards with a plastic covered steel cable that was bolted through the box to the wall also and padlocked to prevent the guns being dragged out if they peeled the corners of the cabinet doors down.

Master type padlocks with the hardened hasps will stop bolt cutters to some extent, and hacksaw blades will just slide around on them, but heat the lock hasps to cherry red with a propane torch and they loose all their hardness and about anything will slice right through them, even when they cool off.

I had a workbench in the garage, but kept hacksaws, hammers, and cold chisels locked in a old metal toolbox under the bench that was also bolted down to the concrete. Don't want to help them out with your own tools.

Mine never showed any signs of being tampered with, but I attribute that to how it was covered up and made to appear to be just a stack of junk in the corner. A more organized search by determined pilferers with enough time would have incurred a loss I'm pretty sure, but they would have had to work at it and make a lot of noise.

Better than your closet, but still don't put all your eggs in one basket!

The idea/goal is to "decorate" it so it looks like something other than it is............

Wire a few lights back onto the front panel and make it look like it is "in-service" electrical equipment. Most people wouldn't open that even if not locked.

A friend needed me to haul off a pair of washing machine and dryer.
they would make a great hidden storage for stuff.
I already have secret rooms that are almost sufficient ,
Seems that once you get started with this addiction, space becomes a big issue ,go figure.

Here is the completed exterior. Interior walls installed, but no racks yet. Crazy fast job change made me get the minimum done at this point. On the road for work but will get interior pics soon.

And yes, I know I need to replace the lock..............need one with a longer hasp cabinet.
