Does anyone include a Flare gun in their preps?

I really don't at this point but have been thinking it over. Passed on a couple at the last gun show, and after poking around online I think that maybe I shouldn't have. Thoughts?

But how will you ignite the fougasse moat at a distance without one?

    edit:
I have contemplated this also. It can turn darkness into night or the cornfield cover into a flash fire.

No more dangerous than a 1911 unless you pull the trigger. Methinks a gut shot bad guy will have time to think over his bad habits ---

I'm reminded of a scene from the film adapted from Cormac McCarthy's "The Road",

    My 2[btc] worth.....

Having a flare gun may have some survival / prepping value

Better than nothing for "stand off" deterrent value if one doesn't have a firearm / bow / sling shot etc

Can be used as a signal to MAG allies that something's going down, and assistance may be needed....(work out some code system)

May be able to be adapted (so I have been told...no responsibility accepted for misuse contrary to manufacturer's instructions) as an improvised shot thrower.....

Check your local laws, but a flare gun may possibly not attract legal sanction for those not able to legally possess a firearm. (again...no responsibility accepted for the stupidity of those who don't do their own due diligence).

A flare gun could be used as an incendiary device, but again....local fire and police authorities take a dim view of arson...whatever the source of ignition.

Store and use a flare gun responsibly....they have a distinct potential for killing and/or maiming those who are shot by one. They are not toys, and shouldn't cavalierly played with as if they were. YMMV

Dude, you take all the fun out of stuff. I suppose you are even against horseplay with Jarts.

    Very true Chell.
For the record my inquiry was referring to using a flare gun ONLY as it was intended. [angel]

I like to think about the alternative, yet practical uses for such things....[reddevil]

I believe many of us can think of alternate uses, just didn't figure I should go into them here;)

In my area.... a flare gun would have limited effect over distance for signalling unless one was out on the water. Here, we have heavy woods around this area and sight lines are pretty limited. Though there could always be use for one in the locker, I do not have one at this time. I had one in the boat when I sold it...... got tired of loosing firearms while fishing, don't you know?!

No flare gun, but I do have a good sized box of military style parachute flares...pretty sure I even still know where that box resides. :D

Like @Yard Dart, here in Northern Idaho I sincerely doubt it's usefulness due to woods, hills and mountains. And, one certainly would not want to use one during the Spring and Summer here and end up burning yourself out of house and home.
I see the potential of it but it would not be on my high priority list.

Boys with their pyrotechnic toys....tending to the pyro more so than the technic side of the equation. ;) I must confess to like playing with things that went flash and bang when I was in the .mil. :D
