Can anyone ID this? Just so there is no confusion on the color, this is a military 7.62 round and the color is a light purple, ever seen this before? What is it, this isn't a trick or joke, it is real. What are your guesses?

Blackjack, it's NATO, not Ruskie. It's sitting on the feed tray of a M-240H, so American. Now, Tango got it right, but can you tell me why it is purple and not the standard orange? We normally shoot orange tracer, but got a lot of this stuff. Tracer is normally a 4:1 mix, but this stuff is 8:1 mix. Guesses? The headstamp shows LC 06'

Ok, I thought it was enemy ordnance you found.

Tracer every 8 and a different color? My only guess would be it has something to do with night vision gear (didn't use it while I was in... stone age).

Does too much/too bright interfere with nvg?

That is it, it is a IR tracer for firing with NVG's. next time we go fly night, I'm going to schedule a night test fire to see how well they work.
the regular tracers are pretty bright, especially for the gunners.

I guess this is a bit OT, but I was just wondering, how do the newer NV gogles and such deal with light? A friend of mine used the very earliest NV stuff and from what he said if you were looking at someone with the old stuff even from a distance and they struck a match it would nearly blind you and would blow a fuse in the NV gear that then had to be replaced before it would work any more. I was just curious if that type of stuff had been taken care of or if someone with a flash light would still blow NV stuff or say weapons fire be blinding through it?

Ya, things are much better now, we fly over Baghdad all the time and it is lit up like a Christmas tree. If a LZ is lit up with so much side light, I can turn the landing light on and overpower the others and still see, so they are greatly improved. If the light is so bright, they will automatically adjust for that and tone it down to acceptable levels.

Yes, Lake City in 2006 is correct.

Grew up about 5 miles from lake city. The sound of the thes fires used to put me to sleep.
There's nothing like the sound of large caliber rounds being expended at high rates of fire.[touchdown]
