Not sure if I should stockpile 500mgs or 250mgs of the following Fish Antibiotics to take in the event I can't get the real thing during SHTF for the following:

    Amoxicillin
    Clarithromycin

    Ciprofloxacin
    Metronidazole

What dosage would you recommend? Any other antibiotics you'd add (I read these are the 4 musts)

From what I have read, 500mg is the usual adult dosage and 250mg a child's dosage. It is easier to give two pills than split one accurately. Different antibiotics have different applications. There is no one size fits all. Decide which application you wish to cover and choose accordingly. Since some are allergic to the 'cilllin drugs you need an alternative as well. There is also the cost consideration. One 500mg pill is usually cheaper than 2 250mg. That's my thought process for what it's worth. The Doom and Bloom website is your best bet to get expert recommendations on the subject. Having them is one thing. Knowing when, what and how to use them is another.

    From his website:

    Amoxicillin 250mg AND 500mg (FISH-MOX, FISH-MOX FORTE)
    Ciprofloxacin 250mg and 500mg (FISH-FLOX, FISH-FLOX FORTE)
    Cephalexin 250mg and 500mg (FISH-FLEX, FISH-FLEX FORTE)
    Metronidazole 250mg (FISH-ZOLE)
    Doxycycline 100mg (BIRD-BIOTIC)
    Ampicillin 250mg and 500mg (FISH-CILLIN, FISH-CILLIN FORTE)
    Clindamycin 300mg (FISH-CIN)
    Sulfamethoxazole 400mg/Trimethoprin 80mg (BIRD-SULFA)
    Azithromycin 250mg (AQUATIC AZITHROMYCIN)

"There are various others that you can choose, but the selections above will give you the opportunity to treat many illnesses and have enough variety so that even those with Penicillin allergies will have options."

You had better understand how to use these and know their side effects or you're not going to do much good. Not every one of these is simply the kind you pop in your mouth, and understanding how to take any antibiotics is crucial. I suggest researching at drugs.com and also paying attention to the subtle instructions given from others who use these vet shop antibiotics. The most dangerous ingredient is usually you. User beware, always.

And, these antibiotics will expire. Some antibiotics degrade to become toxic after they expire (such as tetracycline), others simply will become ineffective. Only store what you plan to use, and always toss the outdated antibiotics. I store mine in the fridge or freezer to maximize the efficacy of these antibiotics, not to prolong storage life.

    Dosage for what?

There is no one dosage fits all.

BTW, how are you going to tell if someone is allergic to the antibiotic?

My apologies for being so blunt, but ignorance kills.

Yep. Penicillin reactions, the most common, range from itchiness to death. Know or don't take it. A good Physicians Desk Reference will give usual doses, and side affects. Everyone should have one of these anyway because we never know what we might have to use in a disaster situation.

I would think most people would remember if they were allergic to Penicillin before the SHTF. I have never been tested. They just ask me. As for dosage, I agree. Dr. Alton has a lot to say on the subject. For me, I have a PDR and his book. My ace in the hole is my daughter has a PHD in nursing and another group member in a practicing PA and we also have a RN in the group. But, if I were alone in the wilderness and I thought I had an sever infection I would take the Ampicillin two pills a day for two weeks, expired or not and pray for the best. There is no reason not to stock it if you can. The usable shelf life of most drugs (in pill form) far exceeds the stated expiration date. There is always a chance you can find a Doctor/Nurse/Dentist/Vet in person or on the radio who can tell you how to administer it but doubtful he/she will have any to give you.

There has been a lot of discussion about fish antibiotics on SM: LMGTFY

Sorry, don't know any other way to post an Internet search. Syntax is
    keyword [keyword...] site:survivalmonkey.com

    example:
    fish antibiotics site:survivalmonkey.com

it works on most search engines, not just Google

Generally the 500 mg tablets are a better deal than 250mg and the tablets for non-time released medications can usually be split in half.

How much and what meds to stock? We've discussed that here with references to the sources provided by MDs:

    Hope that helps.

I know I don't have any side effects to the ones I listed and they are only for use in SHTF/TEOTWAWKI situations when Doctors and Medicine is not available due to The End of the World as We Know It or prolonged SHTF. Can't stockpile regular antibiotics because Doctors won't give me a prescription so Fish Antibiotics is the next best thing if push comes to shove

As noted in the Medical Considerations post referenced above, generally fish antibiotics are the same regular antibiotics that doctors prescribe. They are just packaged, labeled and sold as "fish antibiotics." Dr. Alton noted the Thomas Labs tablets even had the exact same USP markings and I noted that ones sold by Aquabiotics.net were actually packaged and labeled for human consumption in other countries but had a fish label pasted over that and were then imported and sold in US.

    Healthy fishing.

The antibiotic I prefer to store and use ,no bacteria can become immune to ,Colloidal silver .
It is easy to make, and it stores indefinitely .
Side effects are , it kills bacteria.
If you take it internally , you also need to take a probiotic later on, to restore your digestive bacteria .
I've used it on my self and my animals with often times surprising results .
A kitten I was given had distemper, and I put colloidal silver in her water, and her eyes, and she fully recovered.
It is equally effective on external injuries of both me and my animals.

This is a 5 volt solar panel and 999 silver bullion .
With this, and distilled water, and one hour, I make colloidal silver, even using artificial light.
