Some of them already there Gator. And no Blanco or Nagin telling them to get out. Guv. Abbott and Mayor Turner put out the call for high clearance vehicles and boats to come in. For all the flak Mayor Turner is taking I won't fault his decision to shelter at home. Only had 48 hrs. or so to know this wasn't just a cat 1 or 2 hitting Corpus. Hard to deal with evacuating 4 million people and putting near a million vehicles on 4 major routes out when you know tens of thousands of those people are driving panicked with no supplies, fuel, or idea where to go.

Good luck to all you amphibious, willing to not, monkeys down in Texas! It's a mean old situation when a tropical storm sits over your land and the highest mountain is 13' elevation! o_O

Raining a lot in the Beaumont area but only minor flooding at present. BOL (north) has had about 5 inches in the last 24 hours. My daughter in Santa Fe Texas had 28 as of this morning. She and my SIL ware stranded at a friends house and separated from by grandbabies because they went to a party last night before all the rain sat in. My daughter has a PHD and I cannot for the life of be understand why they would make such a decision. They are all high and dry and the babies are safe. They were some scared people this morning.

They have their Backup Power, and Prep's.... Filled up the Gas Tanks, 2 days ago... 5 Inches of rain as of this morning... Youngest daughter is an RN in a BIG Baby Hospital in Austin, and they are accepting Pregent Ladies and Newborns from the Disaster Area, as fast as the Choppers can fly them in.....

Mom is down there inland a bit, last I talked to her this morning all was good and 50+ more inches of rain was expected. She is a well prepared tough old lady, so not too worried about her.

This hurricane has dumped 9 trillion gallons of water? Can that be correct? It is still raining and will be for days.

@T. Riley maybe after this your daughter will become a prepper. I am sure you could teach her lots of skills that will keep her safe in case this ever happens again. PS- Keep us posted, the rain is not done and I worry about the kids being separated from their parents. [biggrouphug] keep you and yours in my thoughts.

For a swag, 50 inches is just over 4 feet and there's approx 7.46 gallons per ft^3.
Therefore, each sq ft gets 30 gallons, close enough for an approximation/guess.
In each acre, there are 43560 sq ft, so that (keys clicking) is roughly 1.3 million gallons per acre. Tell me how many acres there under discussion, and I betcha that 9 trillion is a bit light.

My arithmetic is ALWAYS subject to checking, I guarantee not much.

If any Monkeys Vets are in the area and need any help the DAV will probably be out offering a little $$ to help keep body and soul together when it dries up a little...

Deep, too. Tac posted some pix in the shoutbox this morning of interstate road signs barely out of the wet. Granted those were in low spots, but still, the standard height of overhead signs is 17 feet above the pavement.

I am not worried about her eating or drinking. I gave her six months of food for four, a rocket stove and a Berkly water filter one year for Christmas. Bug out bags the next and a ruger LC9 last year. Poor baby gets preps every year, like it or not.

25 to 30 inches of rain thus far here in the Baytown area as of Sunday evening. Expecting two more days of precip with each successive day a bit less. We were spared from the winds that Corpus Christi and Rockport took when Harvey made landfall there, about 3 hours drive down the TX coastline.

We've not lost utilities thus far; don't really expect it this time though prepped for it. Driving around has been limited as most roads have limited access due to critical low spots. So, it's best to hunker down & enjoy one's food, drink, and stay informed with TV, AM radio, and online media.

Our home has been spared the rising water due to location in an older neighborhood where the ground is higher, and the drainage planning 50 to 60 years ago was more common sense. Newer real estate developments built upon land that was formerly rice fields, or fields for cattle had less extreme drainage contingency built in. Money and politics.....Now it shows in this extreme rain event. So, those homes in those type areas have taken some degree of water influx.

It also depends on the feeder bands of heavy precipitation passing over head, as well as how slowly they pass by. We've been getting steady monsoon level gobs of rain for hours, then nothing but overcast skies for 4 to 6 hours before the rains start up again. I'm figuring that when TS Harvey makes its slow move toward Houston, it will be far less a rain-creating factor than the feeder bands we received on Days 1 & 2, and less than what the weather people are predicting. Hanging in there!

    T. Riley, when I read your post about you're daughter and SIL stuck away from the baby's, I threw my fist to my mouth and exaggerated, fake coughed, ARRRRGAKSNOWFLAKESGAK.

Seriously, I hope that they are perfectly safe, and my prayers are out to all Texans and, specifically to your family! Bless them!

    That's awesome, man! Good luck!

We are all safe and so is my daughter. The biggest problem now, for her, is fear of looters. But, she said she is locked and loaded.
Looters are driving in from out of town to Houston. Beaumont is getting hit hard right now with rain. Expecting 12-18 inches more over the next 24. It will be over for us then.
