I’m sure you folks know this but it’s either a reminder or something to relay to young kids that are home alone or whoever. Hi-Vis clothing is worn by virtually everyone now. Not necessarily a utility worker/ meter reader etc. I’ve seen my fair share of scum-bags sporting nicer stuff than I have. I do my best to identify myself to homeowners via vehicle lights, hard hat, and a polite knock on the door. I’ve heard we’re bulletproof but I’d rather not test it. Anyway it’s something to ponder. Have a safe 2018. :D

Very good reminder and tip. Anyone can own a hi-vis safety vest, boots, hard hat and clip board, I do. My kids have been warned, they may look like a repair person but if you do not see an official looking vehicle, use caution.

It's worth having the vest and hard hat for those times when being gray means blending in. Yep, I do.

Damn I returned all my bunker gear. That coat alone could have concealed all kinds of offensive and defensive goodies

Make sure and have a like Photo ID ( not your Photo or name) to pin to your vest or better yet keep in the ID Pocket.

MIL Bases have recently changed the requirements for Motorcycle Riders and various online Motorcycle Shops have the old Hi Vis Vest up for cheap.

Always ask for ID and credentials, with things so easy to fake these days, you can never be too careful! I have been seeing a lot of trucks with some sort of logo and generic "safety" related names and such, very few are actual or legit, so don't go by what you see on the side of the doors ether! Then there are "Security" type companies, and while some are legit, I have seen several that were nothing more then a stickerd up car!

I'm going grey with that gear, not knocking on doors. (But I do have a "badge" I can hang around my neck. It will get me nothing other than blending in better with a herd of orange vests.)

Grew up in that neighborhood... Nice place to visit, but the Commiefornia transplants have ruined the City and State...

Hi-vis is also an oil use in lower unit gear cases out boards and sterndrive boats. ( high viscosity)
Sorry , now days there are several over lapping meanings to words people don't all realize.
High visibility clothing has it's place especially where safety is a serious issue. busy streets and hunting are serious .
However I believe that only superficial clothing should be the tool not what you wear in the office or on the job unless it's construction where it's important to be seen by other workers .
In my day there were so few and people were a bit more careful about their lives and the lives of others wearing bright colored clothing was not appreciated as much.
Hunter safety course mostly warned you not to be looking like game ,"brown pants with a white handkerchief hanging from your back pocket" or "banging antlers over your head" . Then as now, there are incompetent folk that shoot any thing that moves.
It use to be that the only time your wore cammo is during archery season, feeling the need to hide from deer visually ,when I understand, they are color blind . Actually stealth in "movement" is the greater skill .
I know those that want to hide from other hunters or property owners ,and THAT
is the real reason "they" used cammo .
    That is a dangerous game.
