We have lots of Monkey's in the Carolina's. I hope they all check in and give us on the ground reports. I wonder how soon before the grocery stores stat emptying.

It's a week away, and I'll bet we'll be seeing full shelves until at least Tuesday, and be hearing about mobbed stores, MT shelves and gas lines on Weds. My sister is in SoCar, and is already prepared, complete with spare gas.

I already bugged out from Langley, 7 years ago.
The hurricanes weren't that bad, mainly because of all the other people.

    From Myrtle Beach:
As of last night, the local Lowes has 1 generator left, didn't call Home Depot. Some of the battery displays empty. Horry County EOC at DefCon 2, letter has gone out to Ham Operators, expecting DefCon 3 today. TV station where I work is now in "all hands" mode. Our meteorologist says it's still too soon to tell exact impact point, says it could be a Cat 5 if the steering currents and the high pressure system to the North does not change. Personally I am positioning a weeks worth of supplies at the station so the Mrs. and myself can hunker down there. If it hits here, it's gonna be bad.

I'm going to pick up a few things and be ready. I'm 200 miles inland , but Hugo back in 89 I think it was put a beating on us. I'll put off finishing my remodel till after the storm,,might need a whole new place instead,,

I'm in the middle of the bullseye again! Just another day in paradise. It's actually scheduled to arrive just before the weekend we celebrate the annual departure of the tourists, and the dogs run free on the beach.

I have to check the gutters and trim back a couple trees, but with this much lead time I can sit in a chair and watch the kids do it. :)

Charlotte "shouldn't" get more than a bunch of rain and some wind (wind "shouldn't" be too bad). We'll see. Stores are all fine still, gas stations are fine. Cars are full just in case. Plenty of non-perishables in place.

I'm not encouraging anyone to be complacent about storm preparations. If I sound a little too calm it's because I have really good insurance, deep preps, and I've lived here on the Crystal Coast for 30+ years.

Please listen to the excited screeching of the news media and see if they don't sound giddy. Maybe this will be the disaster that they can be remembered for reporting on. Maybe they'll be the next Wolf What'shisname. The more hype the better seems to be the rule in the 24 hour news cycle. You just can't lead with a headline like "Too early to tell what this storm will do." So you drag out the old Thesaurus and create a new headline.

"Crap...can't use 'super-storm' again! ... must slip 'steering, imminent, and disaster into the story line... oh, don't forget calamity, cataclysm, holocaust, havoc, ruin, ruination, tragedy...Charlotte? Is that near Tampa?"

Don't forget the adjectives and adverbs to enhance the hazardous conditions. "Horrendous" & "destructive" come to mind and there are others with little effort of thinking. Then throw in a few "heroic" acts like getting the car fueled up at the very last second before the power went out.

Take a run to the local Wallymart a few hours before landfall. The "Floor Show" of soccer moms, softball dads and college kids literally fighting in the aisles for the last few bottles of water, batteries, canned food, etc. Too funny!

Yeah, right up until one of the lastminuters clobbers you in traffic. I WILL stay off the roads near the malls, it is tantamount to suicide.
