Many times on the Monkey I have read use Dawn Dish soap. I also have used the Dawn for something other then washing dishes. The blue original Dawn is the formula that people should use and in my opinion add to their preps.

Here are some other uses for Dawn:

11 Amazing Uses for Original Blue Dawn Dish Soap.

What have you used Dawn for?

Dawn is a brand of dishwashing liquid owned by Procter & Gamble. Introduced in 1973, it is the best-selling brand of dishwashing liquid in the United States. Besides being used for dishwashing purposes, Dawn products are also used to remove grease from other items, such as animal fat spilled onto highways, and oil on animals, such as during the Exxon Valdez and Deepwater Horizon oil spills.

I use it to wash Das auto as it cuts the road grime very well without removing the Das auto wax

I use it to clean the engine compartment (I actually use GUNK for the really nasty parts) it does a good job esp after an oil change to remove the little drips from under the engine.

However, Dawn doesn't work all that well for removing oil dips on the driveway. For that, we make a paste of Spic and Span, work it into the drive and then rinse just before the paste drys completely. The S&P really works the treat on concrete.

I don't know that Dawn is any better but I'll try it.

I guess that is my question also...Is it really any different from other dish soap? We're on a septic so we use a biodegradable dish soap that we purchase at Costco, a Kirkland product, think it is called 'Environmental Responsible' or some tripe like that. But, I have used it and other dish soaps to do a number of cleaning jobs such as described so I wonder if Dawn is something special or if it is simply more popular so it gets the referral/recommendation...

I mix it with hot water to clean black powder residue from rifles and muskets. I also squirt it on a sponge in a little tin in my shooting box to moisten patches when loading round ball. Lubes and cleans all in one and doesn't leave me with a bad taste in my mouth or smelling like mutton tallow.

Used it on ants this morning. I just poured a pan of dish water on their little convoy. All dry now and no sign of them. :)

I've seen oil company hands spraying and or throwing a mixture of Dawn and water on oil slicks in the canals and Bayous in order to HIDE the slick from state and government officials.....and to this day this is an untold practice.

Well, that's disconcerting...It might be Kirkland has changed its product and these ratings are no longer valid because the name is different and it says 'meets U.S. EPA Safer Product Standards' right on it. Now, I wonder... Perhaps we better change to something else.
EDIT: BTW Dawn dish soap has a 'C' rating from those guys

Finally! A decent, legitimate use for Dawn dish soap.
Oh yeah, some say it's good for cleaning dishes, too. :D

I heard of a guy here at work who had an unwanted honeybee hive clinging to the eaves of his house. He used Dawn in a Super-Soaker to hose it down. Says it killed the bees by the hundreds. Had to repeat the application for several days, but it finally got rid of them completely.

One lady who works here, with a couple girls in school, says they caught kooties in their hair. She used Dawn dish soap to get rid of them.

I have heard that Dawn kills lice. Glad to learn that someone has used this method and it worked.

For the ladies: Dawn will help if strip hair dye. I once got dyed a fire engine red and used Dawn to tone the color down.

We have been using the vinegar and Dawn mixture (1:1) mentioned in the article for tubs and showers for years. It's really excellent - spray it on, let it sit a bit, scrub and then rinse thoroughly. It's really slippery stuff stuff, so make sure you rinse all of it away.

A bit OT, but I also use soap and petroleum jelly to remove sap from my hands and arms when I've been working with green wood..
