Well, woke up this morning to a Hurricane Watch. Bugger developed quickly around the Yucatan and snuck up on us. Expected to make landfall Wednesday as a Cat 2 or 3, around Panama City, west of my AO in Tallahassee. Getting my hatches battened down. I'm twenty miles inland in a nonflood prone area. Main danger here will be the wind.
Got my preps ready, plenty water and food, and LED lights and batteries.

Florida declared a state of emergency on the Panhandle ahead of Hurricane Michael, expected to become a category 3 storm by the time it hits midweek, and is preparing for possible evacuations.

    Stay safe Florida Monkeys

Georgia's Governor just declared state of emergency for some counties. Hurricane Michael is still gaining strength.

He's a Cat 4 now. Making landfall in Panama City about lunchtime. 145MPH winds now, Weather_dot_com says my AO (Tallahassee) will get 76MPH or so, Cat 1. I can deal with that. I am battened down, ready to ride it out.
We may have power out for several days. I may be offline for awhile. I have two charger blocks to recharge my smartphone, and a car charger-jumper pack with a USB port, so hopefully I can keep comms going.

At 1045 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles south of Cedar Key, moving north at 40 mph ... Radar indicated rotation ...

Hurricane Michael is coming in strong.

The video is incredible... Gusts inland of 129MPH... They are saying this will be a Cat 2 into South East Georgia....

My power went out at 2:15PM. Wind is strong and gusting. Lots of tree litter coming down. Weather guessers expect our winds to hit 75MPH later tonight, with some higher gusts. Glad I am not in Panama City.

Our winds here in Tallahassee are far less than Panama City is getting. And I have had a big tree come down, from the corner of the road it fell on ma front chainlink fence longways, taking a smaller dead tree down and the powerline for the entire dirt road. Tried calling the power company to report it but they are swamped.

Got up this morning, to survey the damage. Radio says a couple deaths, one or more radio towers are down. Highway 20 has blockages, radio advises folks to avoid using it.
The downed tree is mostly in my yard, so no help from power company there. But I did finally get through to them to report the line down. Hope it won't take too long to get it up.

At 10:30 Sunday morning...... HALLELUJA!! My power is back on!
Let's see..... I missed Forged In Fire, Battle Bots, and Winona Earp. Got some catching up to do on TV!! [IMG]
So, the first truck showed up at 7:30. Power on at 10:30. Three hours to rehang two powerlines and get us online. Not at all bad!! Radio had said usual time to get lines back up was six hours, but that included putting in new poles! My poles were fine.
This morning I am a happy camper!!
So, I was without power not quute four full days/nights.
All in all, I came through well. I have two charger bricks to keep my cellphone charged, lots of batteries for LED lanterns and small radio. First charger brick is still going, about a third capacity still.
My 8-D cell Coleman LED lantern is still going strong on original batteries, second lantern still boxed in reserve.
Food was never an issue, plenty canned and dry food.
I will lose food in my fridge and the freezer in my garage. No big deal. Weather was good throughout, high 50s to low 60s at night, up to low 80s during the day. So no issue without AC.
We in Tallahassee are some 100 miles plus from Ground Zero in Panama City. We were very lucky! Could have been much worse!
