ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

Donut shops too. They usually have these nice 4 gallon ones for fillings (apple, cherry,) and chocolate base.

Firehouse Sub stores offer buckets too, and fairly cheap.

I use quart jars as well, also vacuum. This for a test bed as well as a small source for those minor hurricane emergencies where just a few days worth of preps can be on the counter.
Also square plastic containers for daily use and as a way to rotate stock.

I was gifted a Can roller/sealer that can handle #10 cans, and have been building up my stocks of canning supplies so I can start stocking up in cans!

Yes, kind of/sort of. I have moved twice in XX months. Our food storage and other items were all moved via our vehicles, not by the moving company. It was very educational because when bugging out you will need more then just food, other essentials are needed. Sleeping, cooking, first aid etc.. @Yard Dart gave me the idea of what I call combo totes. The bins have a combo of items, easy to grab and go and you will not end up with all of one item. Love the tote idea but one must make sure to rotate out some of the items.

How do you know I haven't? Actually I have not because I been doing stuff. Side job Friday, Sunday cooking already done.... 60 degree days so why sit inside on the computer when I can be out feeling the sun on my face. But I will wander over there today or tomorrow. (y)

I don't see the problem. If food is put in mylar bags with o2 absorbers, nothing should be able to migrate one way or another.
If the seal in the bags are compromised what difference does it make ?
The bucket should for all intents and purposes be purely transportation device, not the seal alone from the atmosphere.
The bucket is the simplest to cary and move around , being identical ,they are simple to stack and store . But practically every thing is subject to some sort of damage be it earth quake fire or flood thief, gun shot, sharp intrusion, being dropped, crushed, abused and so on. the bucket should only be a shield protecting the packaging inside from these things . and the smaller the packaging with in the chances of survival improve.
But if you food is dependent on one single barrier ,"the bucket" that's not much to go on. If your life depends on it .

???? - I don't the time or patience - but didn't you just post this same BS the other week - if you can't understand the technical reason >>>>>> Food Requires Food Grade Containers - It's F____ing Simple .....

I don't, nor care. Whether or not you did, will, or won't is up to you, it's an ethical question YOU need to answer for yourself. And it's worth the observation that you kept the ID to yourself, so no one else can do it for you. I wouldn't bother, there's enough info out there that he was fully aware of what he was doing, the risk is his, not yours or ours. It would have been far more useful to him and the monkey had you sent him a note to look at food storage threads on this site. We might gain a member and save some useless back and forth.

So what good is mylar if it cannot prevent what is outside from getting in, or vise versa ?

Excuse me if this was intended for someone but it appears to be an open question.

So, we strive to keep all supplies non contaminated thus it would go against such rules to encase the mylar in a bucket that might be contaminated and would be considered food grade and safe by anyone else using it in the future while in fact the bucket without the mylar would be useless for foods rated storage or most anything else that might include being touched by humans for consumption. And that is a pretty large target around a home stead.

Then your saying Mylar is incapable of preserving purity ,if I were only put that bag of rice on a shelf ,not necessarily food safe .

So buckets that are not labeled food safe are Kryptonite to Mylar ?

I am not trying to be argumentative ,it is facts that I'm concerned about.
Food products already come through packaging we already consumed from,
Secondly , in a desperate situation one may or may not survive , concerns over what might be leaching into water after 10 years or so of storage ,I think your going to be glad you have water and willing to put it through the inconvenience of filtration again .
Technically the Mylar should be impervious to almost any thing out side the bag ,so that if it is in a back pack, and falls into a muddy pond is the Mylar compromised? No, of course not .
So what s the difference if it is in a non food grade bucket , ? the price of the bucket ?
Now if food is being put directly into the bucket , there is no shield from it's chemistry .
I don't know about how any one else packs their food , but I have divided up every thing into portions ,then into bags of portions and then into larger bags all having oxygen absorbers . Even if you shot a hole through the bucket, you might compromise a few bags but the vast majority are still intact, still safe.
The bucket is only or keep the bags contained ,better than handling bags . even if the bucket was sunk in the ocean with a hole in it the bags should still be intact.

That is pretty much how I do it. I have out my measuring cup and 4 cups per bag that goes in a bag then bucket. It is a lot of cost in materials but I feel confident that it will be better then having larger portions in the bags.

My version of prepping is to think and plan at least 3 steps ahead.
Using a bucket to store food in that is contaminated is defined in my preps as careless beyond compare.
Go figure, if you can show me a reason why you would want to let someone else(maybe a grandkid) think that a bucket was safe to bring in drinking water then you need a bit of thought in your preps and yes you are being careless and argumentative, but you may pay a price for that some day.
In short is it a smart move or a dumb move.

    I'm done

Switching the use of something disregarding what it is designed for is a different issue. I did not promote ethics's putting of food directly in a non food bucket did I .
The bucket should not be the only barrier to food preservation ,even though food processors do this they are required by law to use food grade buckets for this purpose .
Mylar bags sealed can be left on a shelf or in any thing you wish ,to prevent being accidentally broken into. much like eggs are transported in an egg carton. I pick up dirty eggs all the time from my birds and wash them just before handling in the kitchen while cooking . Dirt on the egg is not a problem, the protective shell and dried fluid the bird leave on it are sufficient for the internals safety.
other wise the chicks would not survive. Just like mylar . Dirt on the out side of the mylar is not going to effect the insides .IMO
