Having reviewed the Age poll, I have been thinking... How do we as preppers handle aging. Most preppers want a location away from large groups of people which means most stores are farther away, nothing in walking distance... fewer people stopping by as we age how do we plan to handle the aging process?

Housing without stairs, installing hand rails in the bath/shower, good lighting, making sure maintenance doesn't get behind....lots of things to take into account as age progresses.

I have taken on "this place has been worked over nothing left to see or have here" look and feel. Don't take me wrong, maintain, fix prep, do not take on the Jones/Smith fight.

We made this decission 30+ years ago... When it becomes clear we can NOT live out here anymore, we have children that are vieing for GrandMa & GrandPa to move in.... This gives us some comfort in that, but no decission needs to be made for a few years, yet... All our housing out here is single floor dwelling, and safety handles were installed 5 years ago...

A friend just bought a home. This will be their finally home and it was interesting to hear her say that her door frames are wide enough for a wheel chair. I never thought to consider that when buying a home.

Sounds like we have the plan.
If I'd have known I would have lived this long , I would have done things a little different .

Speaking for myself only........... When I can't keep the cabin warm and the food stocked then the time has arrived that I no longer have the right to survive. I have Zero interest in living if I can no longer do those things and would at that point only be a burden on someone else..... I just can't have that!

We are slowly building a low maintenance (concrete walls/roof) house with wide doorways and no stairs.

Getting on the elderly side, well, needs a humorous tweak now and then. I've been around since the first two rocks rubbed together to create dirt, so I Welcomed Change of Pace

    1. My goal for 2018 was to lose 10 pounds. Only have 14 to go.
    2. Ate salad for dinner, mostly croutons & tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce and cheese.
FINE, it was a pizza...I ate a pizza, are you happy?
    3. How to prepare Tofu:
    a. Throw it in the trash
    b. Grill some meat, chicken or fish
    4. I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.
    5. I don't mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food supply in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
    6. A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
    7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
    8. Senility has been a smooth transition for me.
    9. Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below zero outside they closed school? Yeah, Me neither.
    10. I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented. I forgot where I was going with this. 11. I love being almost 82, I learn something new every day and forget 5 others.
    12. A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money so I woke up and searched with him.
    13. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day.
    14. November 4, 2018 marks the end of Daylight Saving Time. Hope you didn't forget to set your bathroom scale back 10 pounds on Saturday night.
    15. Just remember, once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed.

From dealing with my Dad in the last years, I noticed he never wanted to admit that he couldn't do it all. That seemed to be the biggest issue. His pride and stubborn attitude caused him extra issues. I think it is hard for a person to admit that they cannot do it all. No one wants to get old. I have not heard one person seriously say they look forward to aging and having to rely on others. I know I made a thread earlier this year about my Mom and getting her to scale back. That thread didn't go well,
    So to answer your question:
    stubborn as hell.
