Right now, over 75K people are under evacuation orders, with many more (and smartly) are self-evacuation.

Paradise, a community of 27,000, has been completely destroyed - the hospital ahs burned down along with just about everything else. There will bo nothing to go back to - a real life INCH situation.

Most folks little to no warning time to prepare to evacuate - and have little past the cloths on their back.

Have you prepared to split with less than 20 min warning?

In general terms, how have you done that prep? I'll chime in later.

Take me more than twenty minutes just to get my guns. Then there’s my ammo( one hr) food (one hr) then I’m ready. Wait I forgot my wife(one day).

If it burns then even more of them will come here and even faster. Not only that they will eventually follow me to whatever temporary paradise I find after they get done destroying this area. Let the Reconquista happen and then enforce the border.

YUP, Socialist Utopian Paradise! They are reaping what they sewed! Improper forest and land management, urban expansion with no regard to building properly in a high risk environment, poor infrastructure to aid in fighting or at least preventing a disaster, the list goes on and on and on! Way to go, continue to drain off all the Fed aid funds and refuse to address the real problems! And they have spent 148 BILLION to rebuild a failed Dam ( so far) with another 6 billion in cost over rides to also cover! Yup, Rob Peter to pay off Paul and screw the sheeple! Keep voting Democrat and this is what happens! Let the the fugger burn!

Are you implying that building the largest metro area in the US in a freaking desert was a bad idea?

Naw, convincing people that it was what THEY wanted was the folly! There are certain places on earth that man is not meant to live, or to live in large numbers, man has foolishly ignored those things at his peril and built up those places!

This is what I was thinking. If it would have started at the state line and burnt them out to sea , we'd be better off .
Sorry , this isn't one my sensitive , feel sorry for your ass days.

I suppose some will write this off a Earth Mother Goddess Gaia getting even for all those freeways....

just the same, many, if not all, are reaping the fallout from all the tree hugging over the past decades.

Still, how would you handle this?

But, I'm not going to donate to the RC, these folks will be getting plenty of FEMA dough - I 'donated" April 1st when I paid my taxes....

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

    What a bunch of idiots.

A guy proved over 20 years ago that anyone can make their home immune to forest fires.

When the guy decided his neighborhood was at high risk of a fire, he installed roof sprinklers, under-eave sprinklers, and curtain sprayers in front of the walls.

His neighborhood, more than 200 multi-million dollar homes, burned to the ground.

Exactly one house survived unscathed: his.

His neighbors built their houses right back up--the old way.

I'm sure they've all been burned out a few more times since then.

I'm pretty sure that California is emitting more global warming detritus than the reset of the CONUS combined at this moment.

Things are perhaps a little different in Australia, than in the States....we don't usually express schadenfreude when natural disasters strike....we figure that it could be anyone of us whose world could be going to hell in a handbasket...and also knowing that selfless folk in the community / State / Nation will be there, prepared to help haul us out of whatever natural disaster hell we find ourselves in.

We're basically the same here Chell , I guess we've got what you might call a cold sense of humor. They'll be getting plenty of handouts ( aid ) ,,,,, that's some of that humor I was telling you about. Most people here would throw a hand out to help , and many may throw in a donation in the many donation jugs that's going to be passed around. Even me , my American Legion post has taken up donations for local people suffering in my AO , as well as every natural disaster that hits the shores.
But you probably just don't understand what we're saying as you haven't had to live thru the effects of policies that crowd tries to push on " EVERYBODY " in the country. Jmo

Paradise is a small town at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is part small town and part rural. I would suspect the folk who live there are part of the State of Jefferson, or would like to be. If you look at a voting map you will see the area is Red. Folks lost their homes, their possessions, their memories, their animals and quite possibly their livelihood and town.

I understand the dissatisfaction with Californians, but a little sympathy wouldn't hurt.

Believe me when I say , I do sympathize with what they are going thru. I know people that have lost everything in floods around me , even family has lost it all. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

I would hate to think they might be man caused, but Pacific Gas and Electric is being blamed for one that started October 17. The abundance of fuel and unseasonably warm weather hasn't helped either.

    California kind of earned it.
It happens every 2 or 3 years, people have known how to plan a community and landscape to prevent fires for at least 30 or 40 years now.
But they chose to burn and rebuild exactly the same way every time.
At least on the east and Gulf coasts they are smart enough to update building codes for hurricanes and storm surge.
But in California they cram houses together, make an artificial green paradise, then are like oh no water shortage, the green turns brown, then red, then black.
What is it when you do exactly the same thing over and over expect a different result each time?

Want to know why Paradise, CA burned??? Just click on the link, zoom down and look at the trees around the houses and town. This is exactly the way to lose your house when you do not have enough defensible space between your house and vegetation. There is also no tree (fire) breaks in this town or between houses to stop a fire from spreading everywhere. It is the whole towns fault for wanting to live in a forest and not thinking what could happen.
