i have put up extra firewood, filled all my propane tanks and with all this rain I am staying warm by the fireplace. If this solar min thing works out we may have a winter to talk about. I really need to buy more freeze dried food and a few other things, but I’m pretty well covered now. Stay dry and try not to get sick.

Got the last of our wood out of one of the 4 storage sheds and into the basement just today. Now have 4 cords in the basement to feed the stove.

    I've started wearing shoes.

I threw a light jacket in the car. Haven't needed it yet.

I did inventory my cold weather gear in the closet. If the weather gets wet and cold at the same time I can get to the stuff.

My biggest winter preparation in several years has been to bring my heat gun home from work. It makes thawing the frozen heat pump a breeze. I've only needed it twice in 30 years, but I'm prepared. :)

I don't miss anything about Michigan in the winter... or any other season.

I wish I had a dry place to stack my wood. My wood is outside under a shed, about the same amount you have. Louisiana winters are wet,it’s raining now,but my wood is a year old and dry

Like a dumbmass, I was actually questioning in my mind your 4 cord total. Then I estimated the height at 7 feet. The width at 8 feet, and the depth at about 10 feet. Pretty close I would say anyway, computing out to 560 cubic ft. and 4 cord being 512 cubic ft. Excellent winter stock of firewood.

I need to get out there one day and wack up some firewood if nothing else but to clean up the place.

I built two Hoop Houses to store firewood until I can get something permanent built which should happen next Spring. It's not a perfect solution but a cheap(er) one that will keep your wood dry. Mine are 10' X 16' and I definitely get well over 4 cords, closer to 5 maybe a bit more, tucked into them. Works well...as a temporary solution. I can send you a photo if you interested...

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

I got two more flannel shirts for Christmas and put the Navajo blanket in my car.

    Otherwise, I'm good

My primary fire wood is left as logs till I feel like cutting them to size ,
,they don't loose near as much gas in storage as they do being cut to length right away.
Some stuff is cut up ready to go and I've been hauling it in and splitting it as I go .
I had a tree limb break off in a wind storm a month ago and I cut that up because it's pithy wood to begin with, it may not burn very well but processing it through the stove is how I get rid of it .

Down here, logs on or near the ground equals termites and some sort of black wood boring beetles. So, cut and split is how I roll ;)

Actually reduced amount in storage 1) to reduce infestation and 2) don't need nearly as much with the stove currently installed. Might thin the woodlot a bit after the leaves fall.

Vinegar is a seasoning, CS lol!!

The bleach might just work...need to see what the compounds of decomposition will do to a catalytic converter first...they ain' cheap!

I have had to switch the AC from the cool setting to heat setting. Temps in the house are getting below the 72° F that I had for the summer setting. The heater has run since last year, so the fire alarms went off the first time the heater kicked on, as it blew the warm air and dust from the ducting out. We've been good with just the heat from the stove/oven use during meal prep adding heat to the house, but it is finally cold enough that we needed to actually turn the heater on. Yeah I know, sound like a rough life, but our temperature control and comfort level issues occur during the summer months. I did pull out my rain jacket and wool Kromer just to have it available and have switched over to my merino wool socks.

not complaining about that >>> getting another inch of just rain again today - no sleet or snow - if we can keep up the 40 degree days thru mid-January it would be a pure miracle ....

AlaskaChick spent the morning repairing a leak in our Largest Roof Water Collection Tote... The plug at the bottom had failed, and we are expecting 4” of rain in the next 3 Days... We were running a bit low on water, due to lack of rain, recently. She wants to collect a Full Load, during this storm, and get all the laundry done as well...
