Interested in your opinions other than you would never live in a Apartment Building in the City, of what you would do if you had 2 Months supply of Food and Water on hand and for whatever reason there was No Food and Water available after 3+ days in the City. My building is 70 Units.

Would you voluntary share what you have on hand with your neighbors in the Building?

Would you not tell anyone what you have on hand?

Would you hide everything in your apartment and say nothing even if people decide they are going through each apartment?

Would you try on the 3rd day or so to move your Food and Water Supply to a Private House nearby where your sister lives? There are a few Hundred Houses in Her Neighborhood. I Think this is the option I would take

Anything else? I should mention that a couple of friends in the building may know about my supply and also people in the building are for the most part too stupid to have more than 1 weeks supply of food and water on hand. I have never felt the need to help the stupid.

If there is no water available in the City, would that mean that food us no longer available either from groceries and restaurants?

Why wait until it's already HTF to diversify? If your plan is to bug out to sis' place, make arrangements now to store some of your stash there...and don't tell your friends about it. They are capable of putting their own supplies back...and how many people have they told?

    Silence is golden :)

    I'd ask what's the plan after 2 months ??

Assuming things ever get bad enough for whatever reason, unless it's simply a local situation, like Katrina, or a personal situation, like a job loss, what reason would you have to believe that things would get back to anything like normal in 2 months ??

As you point out, most of the rest of the folks in your building only have maybe a weeks worth....well guess what, that holds for most everybody else in the country no matter where they live. So the very people that keep things "normal" by keeping the supply chain going ARE NOW DEAD.....the farmers, the truckers, the oil workers, the processor folks, the distribution folks, the grocery store folks (and most of the stores have been destroyed in the subsequent looting), etc, etc. It takes a HUGE amount of people willing and able to go to work every day to keep our civilization anything like 'normal'.

So enjoy that 2 months.....because month 3 onward is gonna be tough.....deadly even.

Three days? Why not just give them what they ask for until it is all gone? If your Bleeding Heart so dictates, why prep at all... You can’t feed the world, so why even go there... Me Personally, I wouldn’t give an Unknown individual ANYTHING, Period... Of course my neighbors, all have food Stores for months in advance... It is REQUIRED, if you live this far out...

Those prepared are the ones I would help if stuck in a situation like the O.P. and the others would have to make do on their own! I'm not in that position, SO, i don't worry about neighbors or outsiders! Those who would try to come here will be met with a strong warning to move along, nothing worth dying for here! Those who decide to test that warning will find large parts of their vital anatomy surgically removed 2960 Feet Per Second at a time! I don't have preps to feed, house, or care for the masses, simple as that!

    Quick answer is , no.
Seldom ever does that go well, only on TV do you see such things. Reality... people not eating or drinking for a few days
will turn into animals. Sure there are good ppl, but during a disaster is not time to hold hands and sing and trust.

LOL, let's do the math. Assuming you live alone, and you got food for 60 days. With 70 apartment units to feed you dont even have ONE DAYS FOOD FOR ALL. On day 4 if not before you are definitely getting very hungry yourself.
    .
I just hope that not that many people in those 70 units know you have a stash of food.

If even 1 knows of your food supply , that's 1 to many . That 1 friend that knows of your food supply , probably has at least 1 friend he considers a better friend than you are . Then , they most likely will be the new owners of your food supply . Keep a weeks worth of food at your apartment . keep the majority at Sis's place . If you've got to bug out , you don't want to be hauling a month's worth of food thru a hungry populace . When things turn bad , it's everyone for themselves . Friendship's can fly out the window pretty quick . Trust no one !! 3 can keep a secret , if 2 are dead !! Even my best of friends , and family , doesn't know everything about me , or what I have . But , this is just my opinion ,,,,,

  10. Well, I live in a disabled apartment building. Most of my tables are fancy trunks for storage. Between the small pantry and both my end table trunks. We have about 3 months dry goods stored. (beans, rice, Spout seeds ect.) Most of the little old ladies here? likely have as much or more then me. We help each other out to a point. But I am also the one everyone runs to if there is trouble. They know and respect that I am armed. Twice I had to deal with trouble here by holding the individuals for the police. And once needed to deal with a wolf that was killing their wild kitties. About half the place helped out in the butchering and cooking that night. (had to dispose of the evidence...lol) For everyone it was their first time eating wolf. My other trunks have other prep supplies. Around here most have lived through hard times and have preps. so I would not have the problems you do. (also there are only 30 apt.) Also we talk about prepping. And I have given advice to many here. But if it was likely to be long term? I would be gone by the 2nd or 3rd day. To my in-laws in the country. And I store supplies there already. And have helped them prepare for hard times. Was'nt hard, Father in law was a young boy in the 30's.

It won't take too long for the rest to figure out that you have some stored. It'll get ugly fast. Since you specifically don't want to hear the best advice, you don't get it from me.

The arithmetic above is accurate, two months is good for a day. Maybe.

Two months? Those nonpreppers will move on searching for food and water after a few days. If not they will be dead in a week or two. You'll soon have the building to yourself. Eventually some thugs come through searching for supplies. You don't want to be there when they do.

Excellent point that I hadn't considered even though this was "In Front of Me the whole time" but my sister and her husband would not want it in their House unless their actually was a No Water and Food Situation. I will ask her though when I see her this weekend but I'm 100% sure her answer will be a resounding No!

    LOL

I agree. The 2 Months is because of the limited space of a 2 Bedroom Apartment.

Thanks I needed that! I totally agree with you except that once they find out even if I have a gun, I'm screwed.

Pretty sure that they will eventually enter each apartment and take all food and water out to be distributed to the entire building equally which doesn't help me!

I'm not sure if my friends in the building remember that I have a food and water stash. The ones who haven been in my apartment once or twice are total potheads.

That explains a lot....No worries,Your friends will return to cook and eat you ED

The best plan is to not be there when they start getting hungry and thirsty.
"my sister and her husband would not want it in their House"...
If your sis won't store your preps, she is probably not a good BO location either. She and hers will be on the "taker" side of the equation. Maybe you can work on her to get her started down the Boy Scout road of preparedness. Try using the EMP/CME danger, with the note that the POTUS has ordered the gov to reopen the investigation into how to prevent the worst effects from such an event. (The original report, before the obamination squashed the committee, summarized the US casualty rate at >90% a year post event. Dehydration, starvation, disease, violence, and the cities will be burned out ruins.)
else: Find a cheap, isolated, but accessible rental storage location or two to stash your stuff. These sort of buildings can also comprise a usable cave of sorts to hole up in while things sort themselves out. These will be rummaged through by the takers eventually, but with luck you can have your preps out by then.

I think if I were you,, I’d be trying to get out of there as soon as possible. Start putting a little back each week until your able to make the move. Sounds like you’re surrounded by zombies already.

a 70 unit apartment building!!!!! >>> I give a 6 unit apartment building - located in a small town setting - occupied by reasonable & friendly neighbor types ==== a week or so of survivability ...

that apartment building of yours will be on fire just about the same time as the local CVS goes up in riot flames ....

even with a short term SHTF with no momentous upheaval - I'd be ready to be homeless ....

@SB21 - Ed has rejected that sort of thinking since he first joined, just simply does not want to leave his AO for better places. Result of that is that he comes up with questions that have one answer that will work, and many other obvious answers. For example, this very obvious thread that simple arithmetic solves, once the idea of urban predation sinks in.

I second the storage unit idea. Get a storage unit in a decent area out of town and a nice bike that you could make the ride in a day or 2. Keep a couple weeks of food at your place but keep most of your supplies in the storage unit. Maybe put some junk furnature between the door and preps of the storage unit to deter any quick looters.
